Job Description

The Systems Engineer will design, deploy, and maintain IT systems, including servers, networking equipment, and virtualization platforms. They will monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions. Responsibilities include managing Windows and Linux server environments, configuring and maintaining network devices, implementing and supporting virtualization technologies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. They will also perform security reviews, develop and maintain documentation, participate in capacity planning, and provide technical support to junior team members. This role requires availability for support outside of standard working hours. This is an exciting opportunity to work on projects like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Netflix's Stranger Things animated series.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of IT systems engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux server administration.
  • Strong networking and security concepts knowledge.
  • Knowledge of storage concepts and protocols.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies.

Flying Bark Productions is working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Stranger Things animated series, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan. 

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in IT infrastructure, including but not limited to servers, networking, storage systems and virtualisation, and a passion for solving complex technical challenges. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and collaborate with a talented team to deliver innovative IT solutions.


About the role:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain IT systems, including but not limited to servers, networking equipment, and virtualization platforms.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
  • Manage and administer Windows and Linux server environments, including configuration, patch management, and security hardening.
  • Configure and maintain network devices, such as routers, switches, wireless access points and firewalls, to support business requirements.
  • Implement and support virtualization technologies, such as Proxmox, VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, to optimise resource utilisation and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and support business-critical applications, services and security controls.
  • Perform security reviews of new technologies, applications, and systems to identify security risks and provide recommendations for mitigating controls.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including system configurations, standard operating procedures, and technical specifications.
  • Participate in capacity planning and forecasting activities to support the long-term IT requirements of the organisation.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in IT infrastructure, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Provide technical support and mentorship to junior members of the IT team, sharing knowledge and best practices in systems engineering.
  • Be available to provide support outside of traditional working hours, including nights and weekends as reasonably required.


About you:

  • 5+ years of experience in IT systems engineering.
  • Strong proficiency and experience in Windows and Linux server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and file services.
  • Strong proficiency and experience of networking and security concepts, technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, endpoint protection and encryption technologies.
  • Strong proficiency and experience of storage concepts and protocols, such as SMB/CIFS, NFS, iSCSI and Fibre Channel.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, such as Proxmox, VMware vSphere, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies, including network security, endpoint security, and security operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
