Job Description

Flying Bark Productions is seeking a Previs Artist to join their dynamic animation studio. The role involves working closely with directors and supervisors, utilizing creative skills in cinematography, and actively participating in storytelling. The artist will be responsible for creating and maintaining proxy models, developing previs methods for scene construction, and integrating previsualisation elements with other departments. This position requires a strong sense of composition, cinematic camera work, animation timing, and narrative storytelling, along with Maya experience.
Must Have:
  • Ability to create and maintain proxy models
  • Ability to develop and apply previs methods to construct scenes that effectively integrate camera movements and proxy sets for enhanced storytelling
  • Partner with art, storyboarding and edit departments to ensure the smooth integration of previsualisation elements into production sequences
  • Strong sense of composition, cinematic camera work, animation timing and narrative storytelling
  • Experience and understanding of Maya in a production based environment
  • Knowledge of layout workflows, live action and CG camera lens information, camera rigs and cinematography
  • Ability to meet consistently meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to share information in a team environment
  • Ability to take direction and be flexible and responsive to change
  • Ability to work independently as well as under direct supervision
  • Enthusiasm and passion for animation, cameras and cinematography

Flying Bark Productions is a dynamic and innovative animation studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of character animation and storytelling. We are working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Ghostbusters animated series and Stranger Things animated series, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan.

As a Previs Artist you will get to work closely with your director, supervisor, experiencing freedom by flexing your creative muscles and actively participating in the storytelling process through cinematography and helping to maintain the flow of the work.

About you:
