Systems Engineer

Flying Bark Productions is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Systems Engineer (Mid or Senior level) to join their dynamic IT team. The role involves designing, deploying, and maintaining IT systems, including servers, networking, storage, and virtualization platforms. The ideal candidate will monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, manage Windows and Linux environments, and ensure maximum uptime and reliability. Must Have

• 4+ years of experience in IT systems engineering
• Design, deploy, and maintain IT systems (servers, networking, virtualization)
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, ensure uptime
• Manage Windows and Linux server environments (configuration, patch management, security hardening)
• Configure and maintain network devices (routers, switches, WAPs, firewalls)
• Implement and support virtualization technologies (Proxmox, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V)
• Collaborate with teams for business-critical applications, services, and security controls
• Perform security reviews, identify risks, and recommend mitigating controls
• Develop and maintain documentation (configurations, SOPs, technical specs)
• Participate in capacity planning and forecasting activities
• Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements
• Provide technical support and mentorship to junior IT team members
• Be available for support outside traditional working hours
• Strong proficiency in Windows and Linux server administration (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file services)
• Strong proficiency in networking and security concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, endpoint protection, encryption)
• Strong proficiency in storage concepts and protocols (SMB/CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel)
• Experience with virtualization technologies (Proxmox, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V)
• Strong proficiency in cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies (network security, endpoint security, security operations)
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills

We are seeking highly skilled and proactive Systems Engineers to join our dynamic team (Mid or Senior level). The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in IT infrastructure, including but not limited to servers, networking, storage systems and virtualisation, and a passion for solving complex technical challenges. About the role:

• Design, deploy, and maintain IT systems, including but not limited to servers, networking equipment, and virtualization platforms.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
• Manage and administer Windows and Linux server environments, including configuration, patch management, and security hardening.
• Configure and maintain network devices, such as routers, switches, wireless access points and firewalls, to support business requirements.
• Implement and support virtualization technologies, such as Proxmox, VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, to optimise resource utilisation and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and support business-critical applications, services and security controls.
• Perform security reviews of new technologies, applications, and systems to identify security risks and provide recommendations for mitigating controls.
• Develop and maintain documentation, including system configurations, standard operating procedures, and technical specifications.
• Participate in capacity planning and forecasting activities to support the long-term IT requirements of the organisation.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in IT infrastructure, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement and innovation.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to junior members of the IT team, sharing knowledge and best practices in systems engineering.
• Be available to provide support outside of traditional working hours, including nights and weekends as reasonably required.

About you:

• 4+ years of experience in IT systems engineering.
• Strong proficiency and experience in Windows and Linux server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and file services.
• Strong proficiency and experience of networking and security concepts, technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, endpoint protection and encryption technologies.
• Strong proficiency and experience of storage concepts and protocols, such as SMB/CIFS, NFS, iSCSI and Fibre Channel.
• Experience with virtualization technologies, such as Proxmox, VMware vSphere, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, is a plus.
• Strong proficiency in cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies, including network security, endpoint security, and security operations.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a timely manner.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
