Job Description

Hogarth, a global content production company part of WPP, seeks a Trainee Colorista in Madrid, Spain. This part-time role (25 hours/week) offers a study aid of €300/month. The trainee will assist in color grading projects, learn DaVinci Resolve, manage media, perform conforming, and prepare deliverables. Responsibilities also include understanding color theory, staying updated on postproduction trends, and maintaining grading suites. Candidates should be students or recent graduates in audiovisual fields, possess a high level of English, and have no professional experience. Must have:
  • Assist in color grading projects
  • Become familiar with DaVinci Resolve software
  • Prepare projects for color sessions
  • Understand media management on servers
  • Perform conforming and reconforming tasks
  • Apply base LUTs and initial adjustments under supervision
  • Support in managing versions and implementing client feedback
  • Perform backups and archive completed projects
  • Prepare and export deliverables
  • Verify the quality of exported files
  • Assist in solving basic technical issues related to the color workflow
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of grading suites and equipment
  • Study and understand the principles of color theory, color management, and color spaces
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in postproduction and grading
  • Communicate effectively with the color team, editors, compositors, post-producers, and other departments
  • Collaborate in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment
  • Student or recent graduate in Audiovisual Communication, Film, Postproduction, Cinematography, Photography, or similar
  • No professional experience required
  • High level of English

  • Additional training in color grading, postproduction, or software such as DaVinci Resolve
  • Portfolio or reel showcasing sensitivity to color
  • Knowledge of scripting or automation (Python, etc.) applied to postproduction

Responsibilities

  • Assist in color grading projects.
  • Become familiar with the main grading software (DaVinci Resolve), its tools, capabilities, and workflows.
  • Observe and learn from colorists during grading sessions.
  • Prepare projects for color sessions (importing footage, project setup, etc.).
  • Understand media management on servers (organizing inputs and outputs).
  • Perform conforming and reconforming tasks (EDLs, XMLs, etc.).
  • Apply base LUTs and initial adjustments under supervision.
  • Support in managing versions and implementing client feedback.
  • Perform backups and archive completed projects.
  • Prepare and export deliverables in various formats and specifications (dailies, previews, final masters).
  • Verify the quality of exported files.
  • Assist in solving basic technical issues related to the color workflow.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of grading suites and equipment.
  • Study and understand the principles of color theory, color management (color science), and different color spaces.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in postproduction and grading.
  • Actively listen during feedback sessions and reviews, assimilating common client notes and learning to anticipate them.
  • Communicate effectively with the color team, editors, compositors, post-producers, and other departments.
  • Collaborate in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.

Requirements

  • Student or recent graduate in Audiovisual Communication, Film, Postproduction, Cinematography, Photography, or similar.
  • Additional training in color grading, postproduction, or software such as DaVinci Resolve will be valued.
  • No professional experience required, though academic, personal, or internship projects related to color or cinematography will be considered.
  • Proactive attitude, curiosity, and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within creative environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while following established workflows.
  • Ability to identify and solve basic technical issues.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to different types of projects and production paces.
  • High level of English (Hogarth is a global company and many communications and resources are in English).
  • Additionally valued: portfolio or reel showcasing sensitivity to color; knowledge of scripting or automation (Python, etc.) applied to postproduction; interest in other postproduction areas (VFX, motion graphics, sound).
