Job Summary

Activision is seeking a passionate and experienced User Researcher for a temporary six-month assignment, primarily focusing on Call of Duty and other mobile projects. The role involves conducting user research from planning to execution, utilizing various methods like usability testing, playtesting, and surveys. The ideal candidate will be familiar with testing Multiplayer, Battle Royale, and live ops games for player sentiment and usability, crafting actionable reports, and presenting findings to development teams.

Must Have

  • Conduct and oversee user research for at least one mobile focused project
  • Carry out research using a variety of methods, including usability testing, appreciation playtesting, balance testing, focus group moderation, interviewing, survey creation, heuristic evaluation, card sorting, exploratory research, and field studies
  • Craft and edit actionable reports and surveys
  • Present/communicate summarized research results directly to development teams for discussion and future implementation
  • Offer occasional design suggestions based on observation, research, and expertise
  • Occasionally travel to run on-site tests or to act as research expert
  • Professional experience with applied user research and product evaluation on mobile games
  • Experience managing stakeholder needs and expectations within a development context
  • Experience with, and passion for video games
  • Bachelor’s degree required (computer science, statistics, branches of psychology, human computer interaction, human factors, information technology, or related field)
  • Professional time and project management skills
  • 3+ years of experience conducting user research for video games
  • Professional expertise in qualitative research methods
  • Excellent interpersonal communication (both written and verbal)

  • Experience with research with prototype or early development game projects
  • Experience with user testing of console and PC first-person games and mobile games
  • Experience in inferential statistical analysis methods
  • Knowledge of data visualization software
  • Familiarity with quantitative research methods

Job Description

Your Mission

Activision is looking for a passionate and experienced User Researcher to carry out user research on some of the world’s best-known franchises. Your role will primarily focus on conducting research on various Call of Duty and other Activision projects. The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced researcher familiar with testing Multiplayer, Battle Royale, and/or live ops games for player sentiment and usability.

This role is a temporary assignment with an anticipated duration of approximately six (6) months.

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Conducts and oversees user research for at least one mobile focused project under the direction of a manager, including all stages from planning to execution.
  • Carries out research using a variety of methods, including, but not limited to: usability testing, appreciation playtesting, balance testing, focus group moderation, interviewing, survey creation, heuristic evaluation, card sorting, exploratory research, and field studies.
  • Crafts and edits actionable reports and surveys.
  • Presents/communicates summarized research results directly to development teams for discussion and future implementation.
  • Offers occasional design suggestions based on observation, research, and expertise.
  • Occasionally travels to run on-site tests or to act as research expert.

Player Profile

Experience

  • Professional experience with applied user research and product evaluation on mobile games
  • Experience managing stakeholder needs and expectations within a development context.
  • Experience with, and passion for video games is a must, and an ideal candidate will be well versed in at least one of Activision’s titles.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required (computer science, statistics, branches of psychology, human computer interaction, human factors, information technology, or related field). Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Professional time and project management skills.
  • 3+ years of experience conducting user research for video games.

Key Attributes

  • A passion for video games, especially FPS, PvEvP, Action/Adventure, Strategy, Simulation/Management games, especially any on mobile platforms
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Professional expertise in qualitative research methods.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication (both written and verbal).
