Job Description

The Accountant for TV Production Series at Spin Master is responsible for managing the finances of SME production companies, maintaining financial records during TV animation series development and production. Key responsibilities include preparing and reconciling financial statements and cost reports, managing cash flow forecasts and budget variances, reviewing and posting payments, reconciling bank accounts, preparing tax filings (HST), managing funding processes, supporting audits, and completing ad-hoc tasks. The role requires experience in cycle accounting, account reconciliations, month-end reporting, and ideally, knowledge of production accounting principles and specific software (EP Canada, SAP). This full-time position is based in Toronto and reports to the Director, Production Finance.

Job Description:

What will you work on?

The accountant is responsible for managing the finances for SME’s production companies and maintaining all necessary financial records during development and production of the TV animation series projects. The position is a full-time position located in Toronto, Ontario and reports directly to the Director, Production Finance.

How will you create impact?

  • Prepare, maintain, and reconcile production company financial statements and cost reports
  • Prepare and manage Production company cashflow forecast
  • Prepare and maintain Production budget variance report
  • Review, post and clear weekly payment run in the Production company accounting system
  • Review weekly payment inputs on the banking platform
  • Review and post cast, crew and writer’s payroll and fringe reports
  • Reconcile production bank accounts monthly in both production and parent company systems
  • Prepare and file HST refunds and payments
  • Prepare and input all monthly banking, intercompany and accrual journal entries in both production and parent company accounting system
  •  Calculate, prepare and input monthly and quarterly tax credits
  • Review and track invoices to Broadcasters, Distributers and Funders
  • Manage and monitor production company funding and outflow process
  • Support quarterly reports and year end audit
  • Complete additional ad-hoc duties as required


What are your skills and experience?

  • Experience in cycle accounting and account reconciliations
  • Work experience in month end and financial reporting
  • Knowledge of production accounting principles and practices is an asset
  • Knowledge of EP Canada software and SAP is an asset
  • Strong skills in accounts payable, account reconciliation, budgeting, and bank reconciliation
