Applied legal researchers work closely with product and engineering teams to understand, define, build, evaluate, and explain our AI systems and products. In all of these roles they require deep understanding of both AI and law and must combine and communicate on both concepts effectively. Understanding the current cutting edge of AI and how it can be used to support professionals at large law firm. Defining and specifying the requirements for AI driven legal workflows. Identifying or creating representative data in order to evaluate legal workflows. Working with engineers to build and optimize workflows through model training, fine-tuning, and prompt engineering. Work closely with other EPD functions such as product and design. In these capacities applied legal researchers draw on their past experience at large law firms to provide voice of the customer perspective to ensure all aspects of our products from UI to communications are cogent and compelling to our customers. Across these functions, they must bring both exceptional legal skills and understanding as well as a profound understanding of the ever-evolving state of AI to deliver value across our EPD organization.
Juris Doctor degree or foreign degree equivalent and two (2) years of experience in corporate law with particular understanding of corporate law workflows and opportunities for AI automation or the job offered.
Experience and/or education must include:
1. Drafting and editing of common corporate and deal documents, including merger agreements and corporate governance documentation;
2. Utilizing statistical analytical and quantification methodologies to analyze and visualize the results of AI evaluations and provide actionable insights to development teams using excel and streamlit;
3. Utilizing state of the art data collection and experiment design, including collection of human preference data, rubric-based evaluation, and golden data to build bespoke datasets for AI development using excel, streamlit, and internal Harvey react-based platforms;
4. Three or more years experience at a V30 law firm along with a representative understanding of law firm personas, pain points, and workflows;
5. Utilizing streamlit and other tools to build and evaluate AI products;
6. Communicating legal and AI topics effectively with diverse stakeholders with different levels of understanding of each.
