Job Description

The Brush Painter prepares and details permanent and temporary displays throughout the Disneyland® Resort, including Parks and Hotels. Responsibilities include surface preparation (sanding, scraping, cleaning, patching, caulking), paint application (latex, oil, enamel, stains, primers), color mixing and matching, and working with various materials (fiberglass, wood, steel). This is a specialized role, not a general house painting position, requiring experience with various tools and equipment. The role involves working at heights, often nights and weekends, and requires collaboration within a team. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of paints and coatings, surface preparation techniques, and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

At the Disneyland® Resort, as a Brush Painter you will:

  • Prepare surfaces prior to application of paints and coatings to buildings (interior and exterior), Attraction vehicles, vending carts, trash cans, benches, and a variety of other components
  • Assists in drywall preparation and prepares and finishes surfaces to journeyman standards of paint application and direction from special Disney organizations
  • This is a specialized position and is not a house painter position

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to use basic craft tools (brushes, rollers, mixers, spray equipment, plaster and patching trowels, sanders, ladders, etc.)
  • Knowledge and skills to perform surface preparation for painting (sanding, scraping, cleaning, patching of walls, caulking of dissimilar joints and areas of windows, doors and trim and substrate materials i.e. fiberglass, wood, carbon steel)
  • Shown understanding of paints and coatings (latex, oil and enamel, stains, primers and patching compounds); mixing colors, tinting, toning and blending to match an existing painted or colored surface using the accurate type of paint
  • Ability to work with plastic and fiberglass fillers
  • Skills of the use of scaffolding, ladders or other equipment to meet safety standards for working at higher levels
  • Experience to measure surfaces and area to resolve required materials for particular tasks
  • Capable to communicate (verbally and written) and work independently as well as in a team
  • At least 18 years of age

Preferred Qualifications:

Journeyman Level Painter with demonstrable experience of 5 years or more

Additional Information:

SCHEDULE AVAILABILITY
Capable to work overnights and extended hours when needed for installation purposes.

Shifts are typically at night, and individuals must have availability to work Sunday through Saturday, any shift (1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift) including holidays, and must be open to any days off.

The pay rate for this role in California is $31.20 to $42.84 per hour, which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
