Ghost Story Games, founded by Ken Levine, is seeking a Cinematic Engineer for Judas, a highly anticipated narrative-driven game. This role involves developing dynamic, narrative-driven systems and content using novel technology that adapts to each player's experience. The engineer will design extensible pipelines, implement robust systems with Unreal Engine, C++ and Blueprint, and collaborate with various teams to enhance dramatic storytelling, focusing on performance, reliability, and scalability.
Must have:
  • Design extensible pipelines and tooling for cinematic and narrative content.
  • Design and implement robust systems to support new gameplay features, leveraging Proficiency in Unreal Engine with C++ and Blueprint systems.
  • Collaborate closely with audio, lighting, animation, and narrative design teams.
  • Drive performance optimization, reliability, and scalability of all narrative systems.
  • 2+ years of development experience in the game industry with recent hands-on implementation experience.
  • Strong understanding of timing and pacing of narrative delivery.
  • Contributed to at least one shipped title recognized for its strong narrative and/or mission design.
  • Excellent visual scripting and/or programming skills.
  • Passion for narrative first-person shooters.
Good to have:
  • Ability to work independently to diagnose and proactively solve problems.
  • Ability to receive feedback and not only apply it but learn from it.
  • Ability to work within a schedule and deliver effectively to deadlines.
  • Experience with task/bug-tracking software and pipelines.
  • Experience with Perforce or similar version control software.

The studio’s mission is to create narrative-driven experiences rooted in immersive world building and gameplay.

The Challenge:

Ghost Story Games is seeking a talented Cinematic Scripter to join us on Judas, the highly anticipated game led by Ken Levine (System Shock 2, BioShock series). Unique in its bold, creative vision, Judas is also built upon novel technology by which the visual world, gameplay, and story unfolds in meaningful, dynamic ways. The result is a significant and personal journey adapted to each player’s experience and offers a new approach to the art and storytelling of video games.

What You’ll Take On:

  • Design extensible pipelines and tooling for cinematic and narrative content, enabling cross-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality experiences with minimal engineering support.
  • Design and implement robust systems to support new gameplay features, leveraging Proficiency in Unreal Engine with C++ and Blueprint systems, while applying a systems design mindset to ensure scalability, maintainability, and cross-team usability.
  • Collaborate closely with audio, lighting, animation, and narrative design teams to build systems that unify presentation layers and enhance dramatic storytelling.
  • Drive performance optimization, reliability, and scalability of all narrative systems to support long-term project goals and creative iteration.

What You Bring:

  • 2+ years of development experience in the game industry with recent hands-on implementation experience.
  • Strong understanding of timing and pacing of narrative delivery.
  • Contributed to at least one shipped title recognized for its strong narrative and/or mission design.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent visual scripting and/or programming skills.
  • Passion for narrative first-person shooters.
