Ghost Story Games, founded by Ken Levine, is a self-publishing game development studio focused on narrative-driven experiences. They are seeking a Principal Technical Designer for their highly anticipated game, Judas, which features novel technology for dynamic world, gameplay, and story unfolding. This role involves contributing to the design, implementation, and maintenance of tools, workflows, and key game systems for a significant and personal player journey.
Must have:
  • Help design and prove new features by developing prototypes
  • Help identify technical pitfalls and challenges in new and existing designs, offering possible solutions or alternatives
  • Contribute tool and workflow improvement ideas, to improve design team efficiency and iteration capabilities
  • Help design, balance, and iterate our more technical gameplay systems
  • Work with other disciplines to help align design intent with non-design pipelines and tech
  • 8+ years of experience within technical design making games
  • A strong understanding of gameplay and systems design, including player psychology, UX design and gameplay mechanics and dynamics in AAA games
  • Experience working with and building procedural systems
  • Proficiency with the Unreal Engine and experience in Blueprint scripting
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python and C#

The studio’s mission is to create narrative-driven experiences rooted in immersive world building and gameplay.

The Challenge:

Ghost Story Games is seeking a talented Principal Technical Designer to join us on Judas, the highly anticipated game led by Ken Levine (System Shock 2, BioShock series). Unique in its bold, creative vision, Judas is also built upon novel technology by which the visual world, gameplay, and story unfolds in meaningful, dynamic ways. The result is a significant and personal journey adapted to each player’s experience and offers a new approach to the art and storytelling of video games.

As a Principal Technical Designer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of tools, workflows, and key game systems.

What You’ll Take On:

  • Help design and prove new features by developing prototypes
