Job Summary

As a Technical Artist at SuperPlay, you will act as a crucial link between the art and development teams. Your responsibilities include integrating art assets into the game engine, creating technical art elements like effects and scripted animations, and developing tools for game production. You will also support artists and developers, validate assets, monitor performance, and ensure asset quality meets technical and artistic standards, while resolving graphical and logical issues.

Must Have

  • Support artists and developers during the art integration process.
  • Validate assets and monitor feature impact on app performance.
  • Develop the software and tools required for game production.
  • Port finished art to the game engine and ensure final result meets artistic expectations.
  • Gatekeep asset quality and compression by ensuring art assets meet technical requirements, curating file sizes, polygon counts and loading speeds.
  • Write custom software specific to the needs of the game.
  • Research and oversee the implementation of rendering techniques.
  • Resolve graphical and logical issues.
  • Familiarity with the Unity game engine.

Good to Have

  • Experience with visual scripting (i.e bolt, blueprint etc).
  • Basic or better knowledge in C#.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A portfolio/demo reel demonstrating experience with particle effects and animations using Unity Engine.
  • Familiarity with common game systems and game development practices.
  • Rendering and post-effects experience and a basic understanding of rigging.
  • Artistic skills - proportion, color, composition.
  • Experienced in using Unity3D, Photoshop, Git Client / Console.
  • Shader development experience (scripting).
  • Experience with Maya or similar 3D authoring tools.

What will you do at SuperPlay?

Your role as a Technical Artist is to bridge the gap between the art team and the development team, integrate art assets in the game engine and systems, create technical art elements such as effects and scripted animations, and research and develop tools for the project.

This includes:

  • Supporting artists and developers during the art integration process
  • Validating assets and monitoring feature impact on app performance
  • Developing the software and tools required for game production
  • Porting finished art to the game engine and ensuring final result meets artistic expectations
  • Gatekeeping asset quality and compression by ensuring art assets meet technical requirements, curating file sizes, polygon counts and loading speeds
  • Writing custom software specific to the needs of the game
  • Researching and overseeing the implementation of rendering techniques
  • Resolving graphical and logical issues

Who are you?

  • Familiar with the Unity game engine - Must
  • 2+ years of proven experience as a Technical Artist
  • Have experience with visual scripting (i.e bolt, blueprint etc) - Advantage
  • Have basic or better knowledge in C#
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A portfolio/demo reel demonstrating experience with particle effects and animations using Unity Engine
  • Familiar with common game systems and game development practices
  • Rendering and post-effects experience and a basic understanding of rigging
  • Have artistic skills - proportion, color, composition
  • Experienced in using the following software: Unity3D, Photoshop, Git Client / Console
  • Have shader development experience (scripting)
