Role Summary

We are looking for a hands-on, enterprise-grade Data Virtualization Architect to lead the design, build, and rollout of Denodo at one of the largest global banking clients. This is a strategic and execution-heavy leadership role, where you’ll blend architecture rigor with sleeves-up delivery to guide a complex, multi-region implementation from inception to scale.

You will be Ness’ point person on the ground, interfacing with senior bank stakeholders, guiding agile squads, and engineering a future-proof data abstraction layer to fuel the bank’s transformation goals.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design Leadership

• Define the end-to-end data virtualization architecture using Denodo, including integration patterns, caching strategies, and query optimization at scale.
• Design multi-tier semantic data layers aligned to business domains, ensuring security, auditability, and regulatory compliance.
• Own the blueprint for integrating Denodo with core banking systems, data lakes, message buses, and external APIs.
• Work across line-of-business use cases (risk, fraud, finance, CX, ESG) to map out reusable virtualized views.

Delivery & Implementation

• Lead solution implementation hands-on—from setting up Denodo clusters and developing VQL views, to configuring data catalog and lineage.
• Establish standards for data governance, lineage, access control, and metadata enrichment.
• Set up performance monitoring, workload balancing, and optimization strategies for high-throughput environments.
• Guide CI/CD automation for data services deployment, versioning, and rollback.

Stakeholder Management & Enablement

• Collaborate with Chief Data Officers, Risk Officers, and Platform Engineering leads on architecture decisions.
• Act as the primary technical advisor to both business and technology leaders within the bank.
• Lead internal enablement sessions for client’s development and ops teams on Denodo best practices and troubleshooting.
• Represent Ness with thought leadership around data fabric strategy, composable data platforms, and enterprise data mesh.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Depth

• 8–12 years of data engineering / architecture experience with deep expertise in Denodo (v8.x or later).
• Strong command of VQL, JDBC/ODBC, REST APIs, and GraphQL integrations in virtualized contexts.
• Proven experience with enterprise-grade deployments of Denodo in cloud/hybrid/on-prem environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Expertise in data modeling, schema stitching, view layering, and cross-source joins (e.g., Oracle, Teradata, Kafka, Hive, Snowflake).
• Familiarity with RBAC, OAuth2, SAML, and fine-grained data entitlements.

Architectural Leadership

• Experience leading Denodo implementations at scale in a regulated, multi-line-of-business enterprise.
• Working knowledge of data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation), data cataloging, and lineage integration.
• Familiarity with data mesh principles and designing for domain ownership, discoverability, and reusability.

Soft Skills

• Natural technical influencer who can operate across business, architecture, and engineering layers.
• Strong communication and presentation skills—able to defend architectural choices with clarity.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in ambiguous, high-stakes environments.
• Passion for mentoring, coaching, and raising the bar for data engineering excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Denodo Architect or Developer Certification
• Background in financial services or regulatory-driven environments (Basel III, CCAR, AML, etc.)
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, streaming virtualization, and near-real-time use cases.
