Kinesthetic Games is seeking an experienced Engine Programmer to join their core technology team. This role involves extending third-party game engines by implementing features in areas like tools, networking, graphics, animation, and AI. The programmer will work on multiple titles for current and next-generation platforms. Responsibilities include writing robust code, implementing features, solving technical problems, maintaining the codebase, and collaborating with the game development staff. The ideal candidate should have experience in C/C++/C# and a strong understanding of game development, with at least 3 years of experience.
Must have:
  • Write and develop robust, maintainable code to extend engine functionality.
  • Implement features across current and next-gen platforms.
  • Identify and solve technical problems.
  • Maintain and add to the existing codebase.
  • Respond to feature requests and bug reports.
Good to have:
  • Knowledge in specific areas of engine code.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine/Unity Engine is a bonus.

Job Description

Kinesthetic Games is looking for an experienced Engine Programmer to join our core technology team, which focuses on extending the 3rd party engines the studio uses by implementing features on a broad range of games development areas such as tools, networking, graphics, animation and AI. This is an exciting opportunity to work on industry standard technologies, supporting multiple titles currently in development for all current and next-generation platforms, including smartphone/tablet, PC and consoles. You must be able to quickly familiarise yourself with existing codebases and have a knack for writing elegant, high performing extensible code that increases the team’s productivity . Familiarity with industry standard engines like Unity and Unreal is a big bonus.

Desired Skills & Experience

The ideal applicant will have at least 3 years’ experience working in the games industry and will be fluent in languages like C/C++ and C#, preferably with cross platform experience. A strong academic background is also preferred with a 1st class or 2:1 degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics or other science-related subject, but not essential if you have appropriate experience. Past experience with industry standard engines (Unreal/Unity) is a big bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Write and develop robust maintainable high and low level code to extend engine (Unity/Unreal) functionality
  • Implement features across current and next-gen platforms, including prototypes and new technologies
  • Identify and solve technical problems as they arise, including cross-platform issues, debugging, profiling and optimising for reduced memory usage and increased real-time performance
  • Maintain and add to existing codebase, including low/mid-level systems to support pipelines and higher-level programmers
  • Respond to feature requests and bug reports from game development staff
  • Research new tools, techniques and processes and how they can benefit Kinesthetic
  • Collaborate productively, communicating ideas and issues clearly across disciplines
  • Be responsive to deadlines and work well under pressure, meeting multiple production objectives and deadlines
    • Skills

      • Excellent C/C++/C# and maths skills with the ability to write clear maintainable code
      • Strong debugging, profiling and optimisation skills
      • Ability to work with a large existing codebase, learn new systems/concepts and implement them quickly and efficiently
      • Good communication and teamworking with game developers from all disciplines
      • Excellent initiative, self-motivation, organisational and problem solving skills, with the ability to both drive and follow direction
      • A genuine interest in playing games
      • li]Knowledge and interest in any specific areas of engine code (eg. graphics, tools, networking, AI, physics, maths, multi-threading, user-interfaces, third-party APIs) would be an advantage, as would any coding experience in other languages (eg. Perl, PHP, mySQL, C#)[/li]
      • Previous experience with Unreal Engine/Unity Engine is a bonus
