Job Description

This Engineering Co-op position focuses on design verification and validation testing, working within a project team under experienced leadership. The co-op will apply engineering education and problem-solving skills to develop solutions for assigned projects of limited scope, adhering to company policies and quality systems. This is a learning role with significant oversight and mentoring.

  • Experience with Sheet metal design.
  • Experience with Heat Transfer.
  • Experience with Molding Processes.
  • Experience with Materials (e.g. plastics, aluminum, copper, steel, etc.).
  • Experience with Pneumatics.
  • Experience with Machining (esp. CNC).
  • Experience with CMM or OGP.
  • Experience with GD&T.
Must Have:
  • Actively enrolled and working toward a B.S. or M.S. degree in Engineering.
  • Ability to perform design verification and validation testing.
  • Work and communicate well with team members and leadership.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company policy and BioFire Diagnostics Quality System.
  • Able to safely lift 50 pounds.

Position Summary:

This engineering co-op’s main responsibility is design verification and validation testing. This individual may work within a project team – under the leadership of a more experienced individual (e.g. engineers, technicians, and/or project managers). This engineering co-op uses experience and education to perform the types of engineering activities which are generally considered within the realm of engineering and any other expertise that might be held by this particular individual. This co-op is expected to work and communicate well with other team members and leadership as assigned in order to meet the goals of the project, the department, and the company. This is a learning position.

Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. General: uses experience and education to perform the types of engineering activities which are generally considered within the realm of a mechanical engineering intern.

2. Description: Uses training, problem-solving skills, communication, and company and department SOPs/WIDs in a team environment to develop solutions for assigned projects.

3. Works on: well-defined problems of limited scope and complexity. Generally works on a team with other engineers or co-op’s.

4. Influence: Receives significant oversight and mentoring from Engineers of all levels. Not a Lead or Mentor for others.

5. Compliance: Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics Quality System.

Principal Decisions:

1. Makes decisions subject to review by engineers.

Education Requirements:

High School diploma with 1 to 4 years college, must be actively enrolled and working toward a B.S. or M.S. degree in Engineering.
