Job Description

The Global Mobility and Immigration Intern will assist the GMI team in their daily activities, supporting CME's global mobility and immigration program. Responsibilities include monitoring immigration law changes, assisting with compliance projects, supporting informational meetings, managing employee records, supporting relocations, updating immigration statuses, answering inquiries, initiating visa requests, and drafting visa letters. The intern will also review documents, learn about visa processes, and collaborate with various teams.

CME Group is seeking a Global Mobility and Immigration Intern. The candidate will assist the GMI team on day to day activities in support of CME’s global mobility and immigration program. They will support the GMI team by performing and coordinating various administrative and project-based activities. 

Principal Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor changes to global and US immigration laws, highlighting impacts to the company and our employees globally;         

  • Assist with compliance projects, including physical file management (USCIS notices), assisting with document retention audits, I-9 document review, and reviewing PAF and PERM audit files;                

  • Support the Immigration Specialist in preparing for informational meetings/orientation/training related to current immigration topics with managers, employees, Legal, HR-Ops, HRBPs, and Recruiting, etc.;

  • Manage employee records, including entering, tracking, and or verifying data in case-management system(s);

  • Support Global Mobility throughout the lifecycle of relocations and expat assignments; including cost estimates, relocation policy briefings and administration;

  • Update immigration statuses and renewals in Workday and immigration vendor's system, collaborating with the immigration specialist; 

  • Update employee Workday files regarding repayment agreements, assignment letters, and immigration approvals; 

  • Monitor and answer Immigration mailbox and JIRA inquiries with assistance from the Immigration Specialist and Global Mobility; 

  • Initiate and track business visa requests, including drafting invitation letters for review and signature;

  • Assist with drafting visa stamping letters for review and signature. 

Skills Requirements:

  • Review documents and information prepared by our immigration vendor for accuracy and completeness

  • Willingness to learn country specific visa types and processes, both U.S. and globally

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Detail oriented with excellent organization skills  

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, and effectively with multiple teams

  • Ability to interact with broad range of clients and business areas and to be effective across multiple cultures and various levels within a multi-national organization

Qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree

  • Studying Human Resources, Business, Legal Studies, or related

  • A passion for problem solving, being able to adapt to changing immigration laws

  • A desire to learn & go beyond what is expected 

CME Group is committed to offering a competitive pay package for our employee interns. The pay range typically applicable to our intern roles is $21.10--$35.14. Actual pay offered will be dependent on a wide array of factors including but not limited to: relevant experience, skills, education, location of the internship, and the internship area of focus.
