Job Description

As a GPU RTL Design Engineer at Qualcomm, you will be a key innovator, pushing boundaries to enable next-generation experiences. This role involves architecting, designing, implementing, verifying, and optimizing GPU cores for performance and power. You will build functional model simulations, develop software, and conduct comprehensive graphics tests. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and third-party vendors is essential, as is developing critical driver and compiler software and creating detailed technical documentation for complex GPU projects.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 6+ years of relevant experience
  • OR Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • OR PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Ability to architect, design, implement, verify, and/or optimize GPU cores
  • Experience building functional model simulations and developing graphics software
  • Proficiency in designing, programming, and running complex graphics tests
  • Capability to develop critical driver and compiler software for GPU products
  • Skill in writing detailed technical documentation for complex GPU projects
Good to have:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of relevant GPU experience
  • 2+ years of work experience interacting with senior leadership
  • 1+ year in a technical leadership role with direct reports

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 6+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

• Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 5+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

• PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

• 2+ years of relevant GPU experience.

• 2+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director and above).

• 1+ year in a technical leadership role with direct reports (only applies to positions with direct reports).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Leverages advanced GPU knowledge and experience to architect, design, implement, verify, and/or optimize the performance and power of GPU cores.

• Builds functional model simulations, develops software, and tests for various graphics to verify correctness and ensures highly advanced performance and power goals are met.

• Designs, programs, and runs complex, comprehensive graphics tests using tools for large subsystems to ensure high-quality functionality, performance, power, and stability and identify issues.

• Facilitates collaboration with third-party vendors, external users, and across organizations to guide implementation and ensure alignment with needs and goals.

• Develops critical driver and compiler software to support the GPU products.

• Writes detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions for highly complex GPU projects to guide users and/or customers to implement output; reviews technical documentation for junior engineers.

Level of Responsibility:

• Works independently with minimal supervision.

• Provides supervision/guidance to other team members.

• Decision-making is significant in nature and affects work beyond immediate work group.

• Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information. May require negotiation, influence, tact, etc.

• Has a great degree of influence over key organizational decisions.

• Tasks do not have defined steps; planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:

$195,200.00 - $292,800.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
