Job Description

Responsible for implementing, testing, documenting, and revising Aircraft Flight Simulation systems baseline and production hardware. This role involves performing various engineering tasks, with an emphasis on hardware modifications and integration. All hardware implementation phases, including requirements determination, design, development, prototyping, testing, implementation, and documentation, are expected. The position requires effective teamwork, fostering a team environment, and working well with peers and customers. Responsibilities include designing or identifying replacements for obsolete hardware, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, supporting hardware installation, and preparing designs for enhancements or modifications. The role also involves developing test strategies and performing stress and performance tests on computer hardware.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or 2 years experience per year of education
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience
  • Technical writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with current hardware development methodologies
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents
  • Ability to write reports and procedural manuals
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts (proportions, percentages, ratios)
  • Ability to apply logical/scientific thinking to problems
  • Ability to work productively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform effectively as part of a project team
  • Must be eligible for CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Must be eligible for a US Government security clearance
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Ability to travel extensively, nationally and internationally

  • Ability to work overtime and on off-shifts as required
  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator

Summary 

Responsible for implementing, testing, documenting and revising Aircraft Flight Simulation systems baseline and production hardware Normally regarded as a continuing portion of the individual’s training and development.  Receives assignments of limited scope and complexity, usually minor phases of broader assignments. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of specific professional engineering tasks of an analysis, design or test nature in support of the customer in a specialized engineering field such as software, hardware, mechanical, electrical, aerodynamics or electronics 

  • This position will require performance of tasks with an emphasis on hardware modifications and integration 

  • All hardware implementation phases (including but not limited to determine requirements, design, develop, prototype, test, implementation, and documentation) are expected to be performed 

  • Must be able to perform effectively as part of a project team, foster a "team" environment, and work well with peers from all departments and both internal and external customers, at every phase 

  • Designs or identifies suitable replacements for obsolete hardware 

  • Supports continuity of functionality, to include troubleshooting, diagnosing, resolving issues with hardware, software, firmware, operating systems, scripts, and backups 

  • Attends and participates in regular meetings providing project and work status to upper level management and customer audience 

  • Provides analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of hardware for products 

  • Supports and/or installs hardware components, to include required software/firmware 

  • Prepares and completes the design of components or portions of moderately complex functional systems, working from overall operations, functional, quality, and similar design requirements 

  • Designs or selects needed equipment or materials 

  • Generates preliminary and detailed designs as required for enhancements or modifications to existing designs, requiring the application of current industry design concepts and utilization of basic technical writing skills 

  • Develops test strategies, devices, and systems 

  • Performs stress and performance tests on a variety of computer hardware including circuit boards, processors and wiring 

  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field 

  • Utilizes and maintains instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job 

  • Applies established procedures where the nature of the system, project feasibility, equipment involved, programming languages to be used, etc., have already been decided 

  • Applies theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of basic analytical engineering problems assigned 

  • Selects or modifies proven methods, mathematical formulae, previous design and test information, handbook data, or other available information related to assignments 

  • Expected to work with minimal supervision 

  • Leads small or medium hardware development projects while acting as a resource for other team members to include providing direction 

  • Must be familiar with industry standard hand and power tools 

  • May also perform some configuration, documentation, tuning, software, or other tasks 

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • A Bachelors’ degree is required in engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics or related curriculum; or two (2) years related practical experience in technical field in place of each year of formalized education. Master’s Degree is a plus 

  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience 

  • Related skill areas should include technical writing and presentation skills 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required; All communications must be in English 

  • Technical areas of expertise must include: current hardware development methodologies, origin and proof of concept knowledge and skills 

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documents and procedures and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedural manuals. 

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, fractions, percentages and ratios to practical situations 

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems 

  • Ability to productively work with minimal supervision 

  • Ability to perform effectively as part of the project team 

  • Applicant must have or be able to obtain CompTIA Security+ certification 

  • Applicant will be subject to a US Government investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain/maintain the required level of security clearance

Security Responsibilities 

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval.  All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.  

  •  Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Work Environment

  • Moderate to high levels of stress, associated with technical, schedule, and customer issues are to be expected with this position 

  • Must be able to perform effectively as part of the project "team" 

 

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  

  • Must be able to operate personal computer, communicate via telephone 

  • Must be able to work overtime and on off-shifts as required 

  • May be required to sit down for long lengths of time. 

  • Must be able to travel to domestic and international sites  

  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator
