The Role
The Head of Quality provides leadership for the quality function and is accountable for the effectiveness of this function. The AMS business specialises in the development and deployment of Air Traffic Management systems and incorporates ATC Digital/HE Products and Projects, OneSKY Project and TopSKY ATC-One Product Line
This critical role is responsible for ensuring the application of the Thales Quality Policy. This includes taking a risk-based approach to defining and implementing quality assurance activities, assuring compliance, identifying deficiencies, certifying products, and evaluating and minimising potential quality related risk and raising Alerts and enforcing Veto for quality issues when necessary.
The Head of Quality is focused on leading a team of quality professionals to provide Quality Assurance services to the business with direct reporting into the Director Quality and partnering with the business leadership team to address issues arising from running the business.
This position is based hybrid at our CBD office.
Some core responsibilities include:
- Assure Quality & Compliance – Oversee quality across bids, projects, and products, ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and certification standards, and manage audits, reviews, and certifications.
- Lead Quality Function & Resources – Plan, organise, and lead the quality team, optimising resources, developing skills, and fostering teamwork across the organisation.
- Risk & Performance Management – Analyse operational data to identify and prevent risks, provide performance insights to management, and exercise authority to stop unsafe or non-compliant actions.
- Drive Customer Quality & Feedback – Manage customer (internal/external) feedback, resolve issues quickly, maintain strong links with Quality Managers, and ensure quality standards meet expectations.
- Collaboration & Communication – Build strong internal and external relationships, participate in corporate quality forums, share best practices, and maintain alignment with group quality systems and documentation.
On day one you will come with:
- Tertiary Qualifications in an engineering or related technical discipline.
- Audit Qualifications (e.g. Lead Auditor) background or qualifications is desirable.
- Experience in quality management, preferably in a system’s engineering organisation (worked on programs developed within the V-model) or other relevant technically orientated discipline.
- Detailed knowledge of the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
- Strategic influencing skills including the ability to promote improvement at all levels and across all areas of the organisation.
- Strong leadership skills that inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in an effective manner.
- Good communication & interpersonal skills, including ability to prepare and present reports.
- Diplomacy skills, including the ability to withstand pressures and say 'no' when quality is insufficient, or processes are not being adhered to.
