The future starts here! Ready to join NXP?
Become part of a dynamic team that focus on System-level Innovation for Automotive Applications. Your role is to Optimized Pulse Based RF link on FPGA. There is a lot of room for new ideas and innovations, and you will be supported to have a continuous focus on development, coaching and creating a supportive environment for your team.
Your Team
The System Innovations Automotive team is part of the Central Technology Office (CTO) at NXP. We focus on system-level innovation for automotive applications such as highly automated and safe driving, audio, radar systems, in-vehicle networking, artificial intelligence, battery management systems, and mobile robotics. We offer several exciting innovation projects where we welcome the participation of interns and graduation students (both BSc and MSc). The System Innovations Automotive is actively engaged in a diverse range of cutting-edge automotive and mobility-related innovation projects, including:
Automotive Radar Applications
Development of advanced car radar systems operating above 60 GHz.
Robotics
Exploration of autonomous and intelligent robotic systems.
Automotive Concepts & Demonstrations
Including the use of a demo vehicle (VW ID.4) for showcasing innovations at events and trade shows.
Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Applications
Enabling precise localization and secure communication.
Wireless Connectivity
Innovations in automotive-grade wireless communication technologies.
Standardization Efforts
Contributing to industry standards and interoperability frameworks.
Electrification Technologies
Battery Management Systems (BMS).
Impedance Spectroscopy for battery diagnostics.
Second-Life Applications for sustainable energy reuse.
The electrification group of System Innovations Automotive is concerned with (new) applications of NXP IC’s in automotive systems for electrification that are related to: drivetrain, battery (energy storage), power conversion, energy management, etc.).
The electrification group is involved in (i) research on new electrification topics (such as Impedance Spectroscopy and optimization of electrification architectures), (ii) development of (partial) system protypes, and, (iii) support of the NXP businesses (knowledge transfer).
Current projects running in Electrification Domain concern: battery management, (car) energy management & the cloud (security), battery energy storage systems (BESS), wireless BMS, reconfigurable batteries, 48V power supply networks and impedance spectroscopy.
Your Responsibilities
UltraWideBand (UWB) has been proven to be a robust communication technology that is perfectly suited for short distance communication in, e.g., battery packs and space-satellite applications. The basics of UWB communications is the UWB pulse, for example as specified in the 802.15.4z communications standard. The UWB pulse is the basic element of an UWB message and for test, debug and RF performance evaluation there is a need for a programmable pulse generator that can generate a message (=a series of individual pulses). At this moment the following two options exist for message generation:
Using a Rohde & Schwarz Signal Generator (e.g., SMW200A)
Using a Xilinx RF-FPGA [7] with Python based development environment
Tasks Overview
Explore & become acquainted with UWB communication technology.
Evaluate target hardware options & selection/definition of the setup.
Detailed analysis of pulse generation suited for the targeted setup (Gaussian pulse composition, filter response, …).
Specification of the required message format(s) to be supported.
Detail out of pulse-based message generation requirements.
Design, Implement and test (a subset) of the requirements on selected hardware.
What’s in it for you
A great opportunity to develop your skills (technical, soft skills, communication, etc.)
Gaining experience in a multinational and diverse environment
Possibility to become part of NXP’s Young Professional Talent Pool
Working on real assignments which contribute to NXP’s objectives
Your Profile
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on student who is eager to work on real-world challenges in a high-tech environment. You are:
HBO (higher education) Electronics/Embedded Systems
Experience/Background in RF / wireless communications
Ability to work independently
Duration
This is a full-time internship (40 hours per week) with a duration of 6 months or longer. The assignment could also be suitable as a thesis/graduation project. Please note that to be considered for an internship/working student assignment, you need to be registered as a student during the entire period. This project will be carried out on-site at NXP Semiconductors on the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, due to the required high-intensity knowledge transfer and supervision, as well as the availability of specific hardware and software tools.
