Synopsys is seeking a Lead R&D Engineer to lead the implementation and enhancement of graphics and post-processing features in its industry-leading electromagnetic simulation products. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining 2D and 3D visualization components for desktop applications within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include defining proofs-of-concept, leading architecture and design of software modules, mentoring teams, and ensuring best practices in software development.
Must have:
  • Define and implement proofs-of-concept.
  • Lead teams in defining architecture and design of new and existing software modules.
  • Document best practices and guidelines, and mentor teams on architecture principles.
  • Perform software development in GUI, 3D/2D visualization, post-processing, software design, and user experience.
  • Employ best software practices and design principles.
  • Investigate and solve problems, perform bug verification and release testing.
  • Understand product requirements, including target environment, performance, and competitive issues.
  • Work independently and lead small teams on critical tasks.
  • BS with 8 years, MS with 6 years, or PhD with 4 years of experience in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Significant experience with architecting large software systems using OOP.
  • Commercial software development experience using C++, GIT on Windows and Linux.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, software design principles, and design patterns.
Good to have:
  • Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience with C++, OpenGL, GIT, Debugging.
  • Experience working for interactive 3D application.
  • Deep knowledge of 3D graphics pipeline and OpenGL.
  • Experience developing and debugging code on Windows and/or Linux.
  • Knowledge of WPF or equivalent GUI technology.
  • Strong experience with entire development process, including specification, documentation, quality assurance, and use of software engineering tools.
  • Strong technical knowledge in software development methodologies with experience in project planning and implementation.
  • Ability to complete high quality work on schedule.
  • Experience with leading teams.
  • Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment.
  • Passion for crafting robust and efficient code.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team.

Summary / Role Purpose

Synopsys is seeking a Lead R&D Engineer for leading the implementation of new and enhancing the existing graphics and post processing features in its industry-leading electromagnetic simulation products. The successful candidate will perform design, development and maintenance of 2D and 3D visualization and post processing components for various desktop applications in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Defines and implements proofs-of-concept to demonstrate architecture and value.
  • Leads teams defining the architecture and design of new software modules and the transformation of existing modules.
  • Documents best practices and guidelines, and mentors other teams on applying the architecture principles. Helps other teams with technical and implementation details.
  • Employs best practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring.
  • Perform software development activities in areas including GUI, 3D and 2D visualization, post processing, software design and user experience.
  • Employs best software practices and software design principles.
  • Investigate problems discovered by QA or product support and develop solutions. Perform bug verification and release testing.
  • Understand the requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria, and competitive issues.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision, and leads small teams implementing critical tasks.

Minimum Education Requirements and Experience

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 8 years of experience, MS with 6 years of experience, or PhD with 4 years of experience.
  • Significant experience with architecting large software systems using OOP
  • Commercial software development experience using C++, GIT on Windows and Linux.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, software design principles and design patterns.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience with C++, OpenGL, GIT, Debugging
