This casual/temporary Lighting Designer role involves creating new live show lighting designs and remounting existing seasonal shows for Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Cruise Line. Responsibilities include developing lighting designs, supporting other designers, realizing design intent, participating in creative development, budgeting, staying current with technology, collaborating with vendors, training technicians, conducting quality evaluations, and maintaining show documentation. The role requires 3+ years of experience in entertainment show development and operation, proficiency in lighting consoles, drafting programs, and collaboration with various creative teams. Weekend, variable shift, and holiday availability are necessary, along with domestic/international travel.

You will lead all aspects of the creation of new live show lighting designs, and remounts of existing seasonal shows for the Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Cruise Line. 

 

This is a casual temporary/seasonal role, with no guarantee of hours.

You will report to the Lighting Designer Principal. 

 

You Will: 

  • Develop lighting designs for live shows and facility infrastructure as assigned. 

  • Support other lighting designers through show programming and infrastructure/systems design. 

  • Realize and maintain the design intent through the production of the creative process. 

  • Participate in the project's creative development. 

  • Develop and provide input to project lighting budgets and labor requirements. 

  • Stay current with lighting technology research and development efforts within the industry. 

  • Partner with Consultant Lighting Designers and vendors to ensure Disney quality, compatibility, training, and proper documentation of all lighting services delivered. 

  • Be a resource to maintain the proper training of operating area lighting Technicians. 

  • Conduct ongoing "Entertainment Show Quality" evaluations of existing offerings at Walt Disney World and provide support to maintain their original show intent. 

  • Maintain up-to-date show documentation and lighting R&D lab. 

 

You Will Have: 

  • 3+ years of experience in the Entertainment Industry working in show development and operation of live shows. 

  • Working knowledge of current technology and industry standards for lighting design, (theatrical, industrial, concert, or touring) as applied to live show and facility systems. 

  • Proficiency in programming and operating multiple types of lighting consoles and controls. 

  • Proficiency in computerized drafting programs. 

  • Experience supporting the creative process by working with other Designers, Directors, Writers, and Producers. 

  • Collaborate with a Master Electrician and lighting crew to prioritize, organize, instruct, and troubleshoot during installation, focus, and cueing through the delivery of the project. 

  • Proficiency in basic computer functions to operate in a Windows environment and industry-specific software. 

  • Schedule availability to include weekends, variable shifts, and holidays. 

  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience and understanding of facility design, engineering, and construction. 

  • 2 years’ experience in live show development with The Walt Disney Company. 

  • Experience working with laser light technologies. 

 

Required Education: 

  • College Degree or equivalent experience in theater with a focus on live show lighting.
