The mission is to personalize the user experience on Apple devices based on location, time, and significance of places. The team's work is seen in suggested locations in Maps or Calendar, and Memories in Photos. They are looking for experienced technical leaders with a background in GPS, WiFi location, or embedded sensing to elevate their software. The role involves recommendation engines and optimization within resource constraints.
