Job Summary:
Saronic is seeking a Mission Operations Engineer to execute on-water technical operations in support of our autonomous systems mission sets. This role requires hands-on leadership in the field, cross-team communication, problem solving, and robust technical skills.
You will be responsible for understanding and using the technology behind our autonomous platforms, leading the testing of our autonomous platforms, and streamlining the processes behind our operations. This includes test campaign planning, test logging/feedback, operating autonomous systems, troubleshooting autonomous systems, and performing able-bodied-seaman duties.
The ideal candidate will have strong maritime, engineering, and testing experience. Additionally, one should possess confidence operating in dynamic conditions, the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, program, and customer-facing teams. Must possess a proactive mindset, situational awareness, and commitment to operational excellence. One should be technically proficient working within a Linux environment, and an understanding of electronics and how they communicate with software.
Responsibilities
- Operate Saronic assets during mission phases, including launch, recovery, escort, and safety overwatch for ASV operations
- Support personnel in utilization of operations technology
- Coordinate daily tests and testing campaigns
- Maintain detailed logs of operational behavior and performance in order to provide feedback to varying teams throughout Saronic
- Support daily operations of Marauder
- Support processes improvement throughout product and company
- Provide technical troubleshooting for autonomous vessels and command and control software
- Conduct root cause analysis
- Ability to interpret nautical charts, weather forecasts, and navigational tools to support mission planning and execution
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, or equivalent experience in a related field
- Experience in maritime operations, particularly with autonomous or unmanned systems
- Experience with command and control software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make quick decisions under pressure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams
- Achieved consistent success in managing timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations
- Prior experience working with the DoD or other government agencies is a plus
- Background in U.S. maritime environments and practices is preferred
- Prior boating experience is a plus
- Background in marine engineering, marine electrical, or related trade is a plus
- STCW Basic Safety Training (or willingness to complete), TWIC (if required), current marine medical certificate, and valid passport
- Must be able to pass a background check and USCG/DOT drug testing
- Security clearance eligibility preferred
- Job requires up to 50% travel.
Physical Demands
- Ability to certify as “fit for work” by demonstrating ability to swim and tread water
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Will be exposed to marine environments, including sun, wind, rain, cold, and saltwater spray, often for extended periods
- Must be able to operate in daylight, low-light, and night conditions using marine navigation systems and visual cues
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours/day
- The ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
