Job Description

As a Modelling Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the creation and technical accuracy of 3D assets used across a wide range of visual and technical content. You will guide a team of artists through the modelling pipeline from initial asset creation to final delivery ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality across all outputs. This role bridges artistic craftsmanship and technical execution, requiring hands-on modelling expertise as well as leadership in shaping workflows, mentoring team members, and collaborating closely with other departments to meet production goals.
Must have:
  • Create templates for poly modelling environments, vehicles, props, and characters.
  • Execute manual adjustments of lookdev parameters to address notes.
  • Manage teams of artists for geometry, UVs, rigging, and displacement maps.
  • Follow QA procedures to ensure highest quality of assets before release.
  • Ensure every asset meets the standards for USD structures.

Department Summary

VFX is delivered across multiple disciplines, channels, clients and products. We create animated characters, full computer-generated product configurators with millions of variations, computer-generated products with AI generated images, photo-real, real-time environments, water simulations, digital twins and much more.

The department includes all the usual computer graphics disciplines from modellers, animators, lighters to pipeline developers and producers, both onshore and offshore, supporting global and local client needs.

What does a ‘Modelling Lead’ do at Hogarth?

As a Modelling Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the creation and technical accuracy of 3D assets used across a wide range of visual and technical content. You will guide a team of artists through the modelling pipeline from initial asset creation to final delivery ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality across all outputs. This role bridges artistic craftsmanship and technical execution, requiring hands-on modelling expertise as well as leadership in shaping workflows, mentoring team members, and collaborating closely with other departments to meet production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Modelling and build: making templates for poly modelling everything from environments, vehicles, props, and characters to be used in production with an emphasis on photo-realism, accuracy, detail, and function, execute manual adjustments of lookdev parameters to address notes.
  • Manage teams of artists to create geometry, manage UV’s, rigging and displacement maps.
  • Quality Control: follow QA procedures to ensure the highest quality before release of assets.
  • Technical Control: Make sure every asset meets the standards for USD structures.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of modelling, UV, displacement and subdivision workflows.
  • Strong understanding of Houdini, Maya and USD with an eye for detail
  • Exposure to USD pipeline a plus.
  • Experience with Production tracking software like Kitsu or Shotgrid.
  • 3+ years experience in building asset and surfacing within 3D environments in a mature pipeline.
  • Organised and diligent with production communication and workflows.
