POSITION SUMMARY:
The Refugee Health Literacy Specialist will create opportunities to increase health care (including mental healthcare) literacy for eligible Afghans clients during their first months in the United States, empowering them to make informed health decisions. This position will provide medical/mental healthcare management and healthcare education to eligible Afghans clients. The Refugee Health Literacy Specialist works closely with eligible clients to promote successful community integration and long-term self-sufficiency. This position plays a crucial role within our refugee health promotion in helping clients obtain self-sufficiency and social integration through, building effective, authentic relationships with potential Afghan clients and Afghan community leaders, planning, delivering and documenting group orientations classes to support the client in making informed decisions about their health, acclimating to their new community with the long-term goal of meaningful integration into that community.
This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement until September 20, 2025 and contingent upon funding extension.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:- Builds effective, authentic relationships with potential Afghan clients and Afghan community leaders
- Helps potential Afghan clients and Afghan community leaders connect with WR RHP Program Specialists
- Encourages client involvement in the program’s activities, identify and address potential barriers to their active participation in the program’s activities.
- Plan and Facilitate Group Orientation Sessions
- Assist clients in developing life skills and navigating American healthcare systems
- Review and/or produce training materials, plan and facilitate group orientations sessions on different topics such as: Refugee screening clinics and immunizations, Urgent Care and Emergency Room, Eligibility, coverage and benefits, understanding medical billing (Medicaid, RMA and Medicare), Self-care for emotional and mental health and available community resources, pre-and post-natal care
- Group sessions will be available to any and all enrolled clients.
- The new patient’s intake process focusing on the most common patient paperwork
Reporting and Documentation responsibilities:
- Maintain detailed and accurate case notes for all client interaction
- Provide interpretation for RHP related services as needed by using the interpreters contracted with World Relief or using the telephonic system as a last resort
- Keep a binder or digital folder for the orientations provided
- Regularly update the digital folder or blinder with any curriculum/materials used for individual and group sessions,
- Produce and keep copies of the calendar and the attendance log for all group orientations offered.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Fluency in an additional language such as Farsi, Dari and Pashto
- Attention to detail, team player, collaboration
- Previous experience as a Case Manager
$22 - $22 an hour
