Job Description

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for providing component design solutions that meet customer, design, and regulatory requirements while balancing cost, performance, and timely delivery. Responsibilities include designing and analyzing sub-systems and components like crankcases, flywheels, and complex castings, producing manufacturing drawings, managing engineering change requests, and handling technical changes in PLM and ERP systems. The engineer will also create design definition reports and documentation of critical decision protocols, and perform DFM, DFA, DFS, and DFMEA activities. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes, along with experience in localization and diesel engine components.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering with relevant experience.
  • Functional knowledge of Diesel engines and associated components.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering/manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in localization of large castings.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and heat treatment for ICE.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD software – CREO Parametric.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP.
  • Knowledge of EDM/PLM systems, preferably Windchill.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide component design solutions at pace, which meet customer, design and regulatory requirements whilst managing the balance of key product attributes of cost, performance and on-time delivery.
  • Design, modelling and analyzing the sub systems and components like crankcase, flywheel, flywheel housing & complex castings etc.
  • Designing sheet metal, cast iron and machined parts and handles complex assemblies.
  • Define design validation plans for engine components and monitor progress of validations.
  • Produce manufacturing drawings as per RRS design standards/GD&T and pass on required specs/knowledge to suppliers for production.
  • Initiate and Implement Engineering Change Requests from suppliers and production line.
  • Handling of technical changes and new releases in PLM and ERP systems (Wind-chill and SAP or similar systems).
  • Produce detailed Design Definition reports which accurately describe your requirements, design concepts, risks and how the design will be verified and validated.
  • Creation and modifications in bill of materials with SAP.
  • Create and maintain the documentation of critical decision protocols & design calculations (if any)
  • Exercise DFM, DFA, DFS and DFMEA activities for components like crankcase, flywheel, flywheel housing etc.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering with 3-5 years of experience in Diesel engines.
  • Should have functional knowledge of Diesel engines and associated sub-systems/components.
  • Should have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering/Manufacturing processes like casting, machining, die and pattern etc.
  • Experience in localization of large castings like crankcase, flywheels and complex casting design etc.
  • Knowledge of fundamental engineering materials, heat treatment and their applicability for ICE.
  • Know-how about manufacturing and assembly of diesel engines.
  • Experience in working with project management and PLM tools like Windchill.
  • Hands-on experience on 3D CAD software – CREO Parametric.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP.
  • Knowledge of EDM/PLM systems, preferably Windchill.
  • Preparation of Schematics/Specifications/Data sheet for Scope of supply components/sub-systems.
  • Experienced to interpret/validate the test specifications/ results for different diesel engine components.
  • Experience in solving assembly line issues and queries from suppliers.
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
