Elsewhere Entertainment is seeking a Senior Environment Artist – Biome to develop a new IP. This role involves crafting compelling, realistic 3D environments, collaborating with art directors and designers to establish biome aesthetics, and ensuring visual consistency. The artist will model, texture, and implement natural elements, guide procedural tools for ecosystems, and optimize content for various platforms, contributing to an innovative and inclusive development environment.
Must have:
  • Collaborate with art directors, environment artists, and designers to establish the look, feel, and mood of distinct biomes.
  • Study real-world ecosystems, geology, and climate patterns to inform authenticity, diversity, and detail in biome creation.
  • Produce and update style guides, asset lists, and biome setup documentation to ensure consistency.
  • Model, texture, and implement foliage, rocks, terrain features, and other natural elements.
  • Guide the use of procedural tools to craft believable ecosystems.
  • Develop high-quality, PBR-compliant materials for natural surfaces.
  • Design natural environments that visually convey narrative, history, and a sense of place.
  • Collaborate with technical artists to optimize biome content for all target platforms.
Good to have:
  • Experience in working in or developing procedural workflows via tools like Houdini or Unreal PCG.
  • Experience with photogrammetry or other scanning techniques & workflows.
  • Experience in working with terrain editing software like Gaia or World Creator.
  • Experience in working with GIS software like QGIS or ArcGIS.

Elsewhere Entertainment is looking for a Senior Environment Artist – Biome to join the development of a new IP.

As a member of the Art department, you’ll craft compelling worlds and build realistic, detailed 3D environments that enhance the game's setting, story, and gameplay elements

As a member of the project, you’ll help take the studio and our game from great to even better—with a focus on inclusivity, mutual respect (for ourselves and our players), thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration.

You’ll help us by…

  • Collaborate with art directors, environment artists, and designers to establish the look, feel, and mood of distinct biomes that align with the game’s narrative and art direction
  • Study real-world ecosystems, geology, and climate patterns to inform authenticity, diversity, and detail in biome creation
  • Produce and update style guides, asset lists, and biome setup documentation to ensure consistency across the project
  • Model, texture, and implement, foliage, rocks, terrain features and other natural elements, ensuring they integrate seamlessly into the environment
  • Guide the use of procedural tools to craft believable ecosystems that balance artistic detail with gameplay needs
  • Develop high-quality, PBR-compliant materials for natural surfaces such as soil, grass, bark, and rocks, ensuring they react naturally to lighting and weather
  • Design natural environments that visually convey narrative, history, and a sense of place through composition and asset placement
  • Collaborate with technical artists to optimize biome content for all target platforms, using efficient shaders, instancing, and LODs while maintaining visual fidelity

You’re awesome because you have…

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating focus and passion for creation realistic destruction or physics simulations
  • At least 8 years of experience in creating Natural Environment or Prop Art in AAA game development with at least one AAA title connected to your name
  • Excellent artistic and design skills, including a keen eye for composition, color theory, and visual storytelling
  • Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modeling and texturing software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer)
  • Experience working in Modern Game Engines with an awareness of game budgets, limits, and memory constraints
  • Ability to consistently resolve issues from a visual, production, and technical perspective
  • Basic ability to communicate visually utilizing traditional media
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to adapt to evolving project needs and work under tight deadlines

Bonus points for…

  • Experience in working in or developing procedural workflows via tools like Houdini or Unreal PCG
