Senior Legal Counsel

About the Role

The Senior Legal Counsel will be a close partner to GoTo Financial Head of Legal in overseeing the whole legal matters in GoTo Financial and ensuring that GoTo Financial operates according to the highest ethical, legal, and compliance standards. This candidate shall have a strong foundation in law, counseling business partners and making decisions that have both legal and business impacts. The role will be mainly focused in the financing business (Multifinance and P2P), commercial transactional work, regulatory advisory, business negotiations and supporting contentious matters in GoTo Financial Products. The candidate is expected to work with a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment by ensuring that the best possible service can be offered to the stakeholders by adopting a customer-oriented attitude by guiding stakeholders and offering them the most appropriate solution and excellent services. Stay informed about professional knowledge and technical skills in legal and product areas to maximize the professional knowledge and to apply it within the organization in the best possible manner to make first-class knowledge easily available to the legal team and to the organization with the aim of increasing the quality, consistency and/or cost-effectiveness of the legal support to the stakeholders.

What You Will Do

• Overseeing the whole legal matters in GoTo Financial with main focus in the financing initiatives and products by providing legal advisory, agreement drafting and review, negotiating and coordination with external counsel .
• Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders in conducting legal regulatory review on new products, features, and/or new markets and/ industry that the company may explore from time to time;
• Mentoring the legal team and refine improvement of legal processes by focusing on effective and efficience to speed up the business and implementation of legal risk mitigations.
• Any other ad-hoc matters that require legal support.

What You Will Need

• Bachelor of Indonesian Law degree. Having a master’s degree would be an advantage.
• Qualified lawyer (Have a valid Peradi certificate.) with minimum 12+ years of experience , a mix of law firm minimum 3 years, in-house experience minimum 3 years in fintech and/ or banking (experience in multifinance and/ or peer to peer business).
• Strong knowledge of financing law (OJK regulatory framework governing the multifinancial and P2P business activities, consumer protection, AML, and Code of Conduct, including understanding of current technology and innovation and regulatory trends.
• Experience in leading a legal team, refining legal function processes, and creating cross-function processes.
• Fast learner, technically strong, and highly adaptable individual, with keen, enthusiastic interest in technology.
• A commercial and practical mindset, and a self-starter that can identify and prioritise opportunities to focus on in a fast paced working environment with the can do attitude.
• Excellent negotiator, drafting and analytical skills and efficient communicator.
• Culturally sensitive, able to work closely with team, colleagues and other stakeholders.
• Advanced level of spoken and written both in English and Indonesian language.

About the Team

The GoTo Financial Legal team is part of the External Affair Division in GoTo Financial which is a combination of Legal, Corporate Affair, Public Policy & Government Related and Anti money laundering. GoTo Financial Legal is also heavily in collaboration with the larger GoTo Group Legal team. The gist of our role is to support the internal stakeholders efforts to scale GoTo’s Group business operations whilst managing legal risks appropriately. GoTo Financial legal team working closely with the Business, Product, and various functional teams across the organization, we act as a strategic partner to GoTo Group.

GoTo Financial legal focus will be mainly on the payments, lending business in GoTo Financial (i.e. , payment gateway, e-money, e-wallet, multi finance, P2P lending, and merchant services), digital identity, Information technology and Artificial Intelligence, strategic deals, partnerships, data protection & privacy, intellectual property, antitrust/competition law, among other domains.
