Senior Software Engineer -Backend

What we want to accomplish and why we need you

Suki is revolutionizing the health tech space with its Assistant and Platform products. We aim to create a seamless voice user interface for healthcare, freeing doctors from time-consuming administrative tasks. What does that mean? Currently, doctors use their electronic medical record system to track patient encounters (a digital version of the old paper charts you used to see in your doctor's office and on TV). These systems can be hard to navigate and very time consuming to manage – time that doctors would rather have to spend with their patients. This is the problem we're solving right now! Doctors that use Suki already spend over 50% less time on administrative tasks and we're striving to do even better.

Suki is creating a new category in the health tech space. We are going to be the voice user interface for healthcare. We are creating engaging product experiences, building applications and services that delight and empower doctors with experiences that they could never imagine with their health IT systems. We're a team of technologists, clinicians, and industry experts working together to push the limits on technology used in medicine and even how medicine is practiced.  We’re a GCP shop and 100% container run using Kubernetes.  Our tech stack includes Golang, Python, React, React Native, Swift, Android, Java, Kotlin, and JavaScript. We are seeking talented Software Developers with a strong background in Python and ML Engineering to join our team and help us build scalable, efficient, and impactful solutions.

What will you do every day?

We are looking for strong Backend Developers  to join our Engineering team, with exposure to Machine Learning Engineering. You will play a critical role in building robust, scalable backend systems that power ML-driven features. Specifically, you will:

• Architect, develop, and maintain large-scale distributed backend systems and Microservices using Python.
• Build APIs and backend infrastructure to support real-time and offline ML use cases.
• Design and implement robust data pipelines that feed ML systems, ensuring reliability, scale, and observability.
• Collaborate with ML/AI Research teams to translate ML model requirements into efficient backend services for training, deployment, and inference.
• Optimize backend and ML-serving infrastructure for performance, cost, and GPU utilization.
• Own and maintain CI/CD pipelines, observability, and production monitoring for backend and ML-integrated services.
• Ensure reliability, uptime, and scalability across the stack, with a focus on clean, maintainable code and strong system architecture.
• Work cross-functionally with product, operations, and design teams to deliver user-centric features that leverage ML behind the scenes.

What are we looking for in the perfect candidate?

• You are passionate about backend architecture, systems engineering, and building reliable APIs.
• Production-scale experience: You’ve built, deployed, and scaled backend systems and have a strong grasp of distributed architecture.
• ML exposure: You understand the requirements of ML systems and can collaborate effectively with ML researchers to operationalize models.
• Bias for action: You ship fast, iterate based on feedback, and enjoy solving tough backend and infrastructure problems.
• Pragmatic problem-solver: You bring a practical, data-driven approach to debugging and optimizing complex systems.
• Collaborative and humble: You work well across teams and prioritize impact over ego.
• Adaptable and forward-looking: You are excited by change and stay up to date with evolving backend and ML infrastructure trends.

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience developing scalable backend systems using Python.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, concurrency, and system design.
• Experience with ML model serving or integrating ML inference workflows into backend APIs.
• Strong understanding of containerization, orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with cloud platforms (preferably GCP) and optimizing backend and ML workloads for performance and cost.
• Solid grounding in data structures, algorithms, and Linux-based systems.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

It will be a huge plus if you have:

• Experience working with LLM Vendor APIs (e.g. Open AI) or integrating foundation models into backend systems.
• Familiarity with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and service communication patterns in microservices environments.
• Background in building or scaling ML infrastructure (e.g., feature stores, training pipelines, GPU orchestration).
• Experience with backend observability tools and designing systems for resilience and debuggability.
