Job Description

As the Technology Solutions-Senior Specialist, your role is instrumental in providing expertise and support to internal and external stakeholders in the delivery of Telstra’s solutions. You use your deep technical expertise to ensure solutions deliver a great customer experience. Core to enabling wholistic solutions to be designed, implemented, and maintained, is your continuous learning mindset, focus on collaborative teamwork and broad technical capability.
Must have:
  • Deliver complex, cross-functional solution development and lifecycle tasks.
  • Translate business needs into architectural solutions aligned with Telstra standards.
  • Provide solution direction and resolve design and maintenance objectives.
  • Collaborate with technology partners to deliver minimum viable products.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for solution stability.
  • Influence stakeholders to identify requirements and business priorities.
  • Curate commercially viable product and solution technologies.
  • Oversee design implementation, ensuring positive customer experience.
  • Share knowledge and promote best practices in Solution Architecture.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced team members on new technologies.
  • Evaluate third-party vendors and technologies for IT strategy alignment.
  • Monitor IT system performance and implement optimizations.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and drive innovation.
  • 8+ years in software development.
  • 3+ years in architectural solution analysis and documentation.
  • Experience in negotiating and debating solution options.
  • Collaboration with project teams (Scrum Masters, BAs, developers, testers).
  • Contribution to architectural and IT roadmaps.
  • Architecting solutions for cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
  • Expertise in Integration principles and patterns.
  • Data modelling, relational and NoSQL database design.
  • Knowledge of Microservices architectures.
  • Experience with CI/CD processes and tooling.
  • Working experience as a Solutions Architect.
  • Proficiency in Engineering and software architecture design.
  • Experience with online and integration technologies, including REST API design and API Gateway.
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud and XaaS based products and capabilities.

What You’ll Do

Product & Technology - Software Engineering & IT develops and maintains Telstra's software and IT systems, working on some really cutting-edge technologies.

As a Senior Technology Solutions Specialist, you apply broad experience and technical know-how across multiple technologies and diverse solution portfolios to deliver against the following responsibilities:

  • Deliver complex, cross functional solution development and lifecycle tasks with speed, working with cross-functional stakeholders to quickly and efficiently translate business (internal, external or regulatory) needs into architectural solutions that are fit-for purpose, re-usable, scalable, manageable, and align Telstra’s architectural standards.
  • Significantly contribute to the resolution of solution design and maintenance objectives and provide the solution direction in relation to your area of expertise.
  • Collaborate and co-create with a network of technology partners by building enduring relationships based on mutual benefit that enable the rapid delivery of minimum viable products that are aligned to our needs and strengthen their Intellectual Property.
  • Significantly contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across solutions by implementing best practices and policies to support environment stability and enhance the capability of technology, system, and process building blocks.
  • Authentically engage with and effectively influence internal and external stakeholders to collaboratively identify requirements and build an understanding of business priorities.
  • Contribute to curating commercially viable product and solution technologies by staying current with technology trends and competitor use of technology.
  • Maintain oversite of the implementation of the design, ensuring any workarounds do not negatively impact the customer experience and tracking CX and advocacy benchmarks to identify and resolve any experience issues.
  • Contribute to outcomes within the Solution Architecture domain, by consciously sharing knowledge and promoting best practice to achieve enhanced outcomes.
  • Model continuous learning by developing and maintaining your own expertise and knowledge (including new and emerging technologies, tools, systems and processes) to ensure you bring the latest thinking to your role and can coach and mentor less experienced team members.
  • Evaluate third-party vendors and technologies to determine if they align with the organization's IT strategy. Make recommendations for technology adoption or partnerships
  • Monitor the performance of IT systems and architectures to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement. Implement optimizations as needed.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends. Identify opportunities to enhance IT capabilities and drive innovation within the organization.

About You

Essential Skills

  • 8+ years’ experience in software development
  • 3 + years in Analyzing, specifying and documenting architectural solutions to satisfy complex business requirements involving large numbers of systems.
  • Negotiating solutions with disparate stakeholders often with conflicting goals or agendas.
  • Debating solution options within a wider architectural community to achieve consensus on key architectural decisions.
  • Collaborating with project teams consisting of Scrum Masters, business analysts, developers and testers to ensure that specified solutions are understood and to facilitate delivery.
  • Contributing to architectural and IT roadmaps.
  • Architecting solutions for cloud platforms – particularly AWS.
  • Experience in Integration principles and patterns
  • Experience in Data modelling and relational and NoSQL database design

  • Continuous integration and delivery processes and tooling.
