Job Description

DPS Games, a Wargaming studio, is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to contribute to a new, unannounced free-to-play military sci-fi fantasy game. This role involves developing game systems and prototypes using Unreal Engine, writing clean and efficient code, debugging, testing, and optimizing performance. The engineer will collaborate with design and art teams, contribute to the in-house UE framework, and share their game development and Unreal Engine knowledge. The ideal candidate has strong C/C++ and Unreal Engine experience, multiplayer gameplay systems knowledge, and experience in rapid prototyping and problem-solving. The work mode is hybrid, requiring three days a week at the Guildford studio.
Must have:
  • Experience as a software engineer in game development
  • Significant software development experience
  • Strong C/C++ and Unreal Engine knowledge
  • Knowledge of multiplayer gameplay systems
  • Experience in rapid prototyping
Good to have:
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine subsystems (Gameplay Ability, Niagara FX, Animation)
  • Specialist knowledge in graphics, networking, gameplay, or AI
  • Experience with Unity or comparable game engines
  • Degree in computer science or similar
  • Passion for making multiplayer games

DPS Games is a Wargaming studio, proudly backed by the global success of titles like World of Tanks. Based in Guildford, we are part of one of the world’s leading free-to-play PC game companies, with the resources and experience to support ambitious, long-term development.

We're currently building our next big project: a collaboration with a world-renowned name, an epic-scale military sci-fi fantasy, free-to-play game focused on delivering cinematic visual quality and a rich, immersive world.

Now in the early stages of pre-production and prototyping, we’re looking for an exceptionally skilled experienced Software Engineer to assist in the creation of the next big free-to-play title from Wargaming.

The Software Engineer will report into the Product Director

What will you do?

  • Develop game systems and game feature prototypes in Unreal Engine
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code and documentation, and participate in code review
  • Debug, test, and fix issues, while optimising performance across multiple platforms.
  • Contribute components for our in-house UE based framework
  • Collaborate closely with design and art teams to flesh out implementation details
  • Share your game development experience and Unreal Engine knowledge with the team and learn from others

What are we looking for?

  • Strong proven experience working as software engineer in game development
  • Significant experience in software development
  • Strong knowledge of modern C/C++ and Unreal Engine
  • Strong knowledge of multiplayer gameplay systems and network replication
  • Experience in rapid prototyping and creative problem solving
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on positive cross discipline teamwork

What additional skills will help you stand out?

  • Strong knowledge of at least one of the following Unreal Engine subsystems: Gameplay Ability, Niagara FX, Animation.
  • Specialist knowledge in one of the following areas: graphics (including shaders , 3d modelling), networking, gameplay, AI.
  • Experience working with Unity or comparable game engines
  • Degree in computer science or similar
  • Passion for making multiplayer games

Work mode

Hybrid (3x per week from the Guildford studio)
