Job Description

eBay, Inc. seeks a Software Engineer 3 in New York, NY. This role involves developing and implementing testing practices to maintain high-quality standards for company products, building the core of the eBay Ad Server Platform, and developing services for surfacing eBay advertising products. The engineer will design and build high-performing, reliable technical solutions for distributed systems, enhance ad selection and content, and monitor existing software systems to ensure optimal performance.
Must Have:
  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field
  • One year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation
  • Experience with Java and Scala, including object-oriented and functional programming, and JVM
  • Experience with distributed systems and high-throughput applications
  • Proficiency in web services and RESTful APIs
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL
  • Experience with software testing methodologies and practices, complemented by troubleshooting skills, including metrics and log analysis, and use of IDE debuggers
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments
  • Experience with NoSQL databases
  • Experience with service design, system design, and system architecture
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes), and cloud platforms
  • Experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch and search engine optimization

About the team and the role:

What you will accomplish:

Job Duties: Develop and implement testing practices to develop, apply, and maintain high-quality standards for company products. Help build out the core of the eBay Ad Server Platform – by developing a set of services for surfacing eBay advertising products on eBay properties, and external publishers. Work on a variety of services, tools, and components and be actively involved in all aspects of the software development. Design and build high-performing, reliable technical solutions for high-throughput, distributed systems using a variety of third-party and eBay Internal Libraries and frameworks. Work with other product teams across multiple eBay Business Units. Design and implement software systems for displaying ads for promoting eBay sellers' stores across eBay's websites and applications, enhancing visibility and engagement. Enhance ad selection and ad content to boost ad relevance for buyers, improving buyers' experience and increasing click-through rates for sellers, thereby driving up eBay's ad revenue. Monitor and maintain existing software systems, promptly identifying and resolving issues to ensure their optimal performance. Partial telecommuting permitted within a commutable distance.

What you will bring:

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus one year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Special Skill Requirements:

1. Experience with Java and Scala, including object-oriented and functional programming, and JVM (1 year)

2. Experience with distributed systems and high-throughput applications (1 year)

Salary: $131,997-190,100 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
