Job Description

Google's Home team is seeking a Software Engineer to develop next-generation technologies for Google Nest products. This role involves designing and developing software, collaborating with partners on Linux drivers, Android HAL, and framework integration, working with hardware teams on board bring-up, and optimizing system performance. The engineer will also ensure technical integration with OEMs/ODMs and chipset vendors, influencing system designs and resolving technical issues to deliver product excellence for a helpful home.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Java).
  • 1 year of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • Design and develop software that enables Google Nest product lines.
  • Collaborate with partners on Linux drivers, Android Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), Android Framework, services, and applications.
  • Work with hardware teams on board bring-up.
  • Work on system performance profiling and improvement.
  • Ensure technical integration with hardware OEM/Original Device Manufacturer (ODM) and chipset vendors.
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience in embedded software development.
  • Knowledge of developing Android framework or Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) components.
  • Understanding of SoC architecture, kernel driver or firmware development including performance and power tradeoffs.
  • Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
