Job Description

As a Software Engineer III in Infrastructure and Operations at Google, you'll build and scale tools and infrastructure, designing and developing new systems and features. Responsibilities include creating comprehensive design documents, writing end-to-end code, contributing to documentation, reviewing code, and resolving issues to maintain operational excellence. You will work on complex challenges, ensuring reliability and performance within Google's Platform & Devices Engineering team. The role requires experience with software development, data structures, algorithms, Linux, Python, and ideally CI/CD systems and cloud computing.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • Experience with configuring a suite of applications and services for data analysis, visualization, exploration, and management.
  • Experience using Linux operating systems.
  • Experience developing software applications using Python.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience building developer tools and infrastructure around builds, tests and release.
  • Experience working on complex projects and influencing engineering teams.
  • Experience in Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Development (CD) and Continuous Testing (CT) systems.
  • Experience with Cloud Computing or in a Linux development environment.
  • Experience owning and leading projects end to end.

As a Software Engineer in Platform & Devices Engineering Infrastructure & Operations (PDEIO), you'll take on complex challenges in building and scaling our tools and our infrastructure. You'll own the design and development of new systems and features, ensuring reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Create comprehensive design documents to solve ambiguous problems in our tools, infrastructure, and related systems.
  • Write end-to-end code to land the solution along with associated metrics and dashboards.
  • Contribute to documentation and user education based on system updates and user feedback.
  • Review design and code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.
  • Triage/debug/track/resolve issues to maintain system operational excellence in team's project/task management tools.
