Job Description

Synthesia is seeking an L5 Software Engineer for their Front End Platform team to own the foundations of their Studio web app. This role focuses on performance, stability, observability, and developer experience, building architecture and systems to ensure the app scales while remaining fast and reliable. The engineer will lead initiatives across multiple teams, evolving build tooling, scaling CI/CD pipelines, and creating internal libraries, empowering product engineers to ship features confidently.
Must Have:
  • 5+ years of experience as a frontend engineer with strong expertise in React and modern web architecture.
  • Previous experience working in a frontend platform team of a growing B2B SaaS company.
  • Hands-on experience with tooling and CI/CD systems at scale.
  • Proven track record of leading initiatives that improved developer experience, platform stability, or performance across multiple teams.
  • Strong architectural mindset: able to break down monoliths, design scalable systems, and improve app-level observability.
  • Experience balancing infrastructure and product impact.
  • A proactive mindset: anticipate problems, rally stakeholders, and deliver solutions end-to-end without waiting for direction.

What you will be doing:

In this role, you’ll own the foundations of our frontend platform end-to-end, ensuring our Studio web app can scale while remaining fast, stable, and a joy to build on. You’ll focus on three core areas:

  • Performance – building architecture and systems that keep the app fast at scale.
  • Stability and observability – ensuring our apps are reliable, resilient, and easy to debug.
  • Developer experience and velocity – creating tooling, processes, and infrastructure that help product engineers ship features with confidence.

You’ll lead initiatives that cut across multiple teams — from evolving build tooling and scaling our CI/CD pipelines, to creating internal libraries and SDKs used throughout the company. You’ll balance hands-on engineering with architectural decisions, making sure our frontend stack stays robust and future-proof.

Your work will directly empower other engineers: while they focus on features, you’ll take care of the platform, tooling, and architecture that makes rapid iteration possible.

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of experience as a frontend engineer with a strong expertise in React and modern web architecture.
  • Previous experience working in a frontend platform team of a growing B2B SaaS company.
  • Hands-on experience with tooling and CI/CD systems at scale — you’ve helped teams deploy fast and safely in large monorepos or similar environments.
  • Proven track record of leading initiatives that improved developer experience, platform stability, or performance across multiple teams.
  • Strong architectural mindset: able to break down monoliths, design scalable systems, and improve app-level observability.
  • Experience balancing infrastructure and product impact.
  • A proactive mindset: you anticipate problems, rally stakeholders, and deliver solutions end-to-end without waiting for direction.

The hiring process:

1. 30-40min call with one of our technical recruiters

2. 60-minute call with our Frontend Platform lead, where we’ll dive into your past projects (30min) and walk through a short System Design exercise (30min).

3. Take-home assignment (no alternative is offered) - does not have a deadline and is syntax-agnostic, so you're welcome to use the tools and languages you're most comfortable with. That said, we strongly prefer contributions using our core stack: React/TypeScript on the frontend

4. 60min technical discussion about your take-home assignment

5. 30min call with leadership

Depending on your availability, this process can be finished within 7 working days.

  • A remote-friendly or hybrid environment for candidates based in Europe. You can work fully remote if this is your preference or hybrid from London, Munich, Zurich or Copenhagen offices.
  • Base salary starts at EUR/GBP/CHF 100.000 base + stock option plan.
  • This is full-time employment only - no contractors possible - usually through OysterHR.
  • Everyone at Synthesia gets 25 days of leave + local holidays.
  • Visa sponsorship possible only if you are based in a UK/EU country already - we’re unable to relocate candidates.
