As an Engineering Manager on the Metagame team for 2XKO, you will lead a team of backend and full stack engineers to build systems supporting progression, customization, player identity, and out-of-fight experiences. You'll guide your team through technical complexities, uphold high craft standards, and foster growth. This involves close collaboration with various teams to bring player-facing features to life, ensuring they scale globally and integrate seamlessly with the game's core experience. Your responsibilities will include managing the engineering team's health, performance, and growth, mentoring engineers, and fostering a collaborative environment.
Must have:
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • 2+ years in a technical leadership role
  • Experience with backend systems in a live product

Established in 2020, the Singapore Studio is Riot’s second international game development studio. Riot has been expanding our footprint in Asia and accelerating our talent growth to develop games that deliver great experiences to our players. Our mission is to “scale Riot’s games to hyper-serve players.”

We partner with our LA headquarters on game development for League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and Legends of Runeterra. We’re also building teams for VALORANT and 2XKO, our upcoming fighting game.. The Singapore Studio is seeking talented, passionate craft experts with backgrounds in all areas of game development to build games that make it better to be a player.

As an Engineering Manager on the Metagame team for 2XKO, you’ll lead a team of backend and full stack engineers to build systems that support progression, customization, player identity, and other out-of-fight experiences. These systems form the connective tissue between matches, giving players reasons to keep coming back and deepening their connection to the game.

You’ll help your team navigate technical complexity, uphold high craft standards, and grow both individually and together. You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, art, QA, and central tech to bring compelling player-facing features to life, features that need to scale globally, evolve over time, and feel seamlessly connected to the fight.

You’ll report to the Senior Engineering Manager for the Singapore studio.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the health, performance, and growth of a multi-disciplinary engineering team with empathy and authenticity.
  • Lead with context and clarity, supporting the team through changing requirements and ambiguous problem spaces.
  • Hire, coach, and mentor engineers of varying experience levels, helping them grow their technical and leadership skills.
  • Foster strong relationships with cross-disciplinary partners to ensure engineering is aligned with product, design, and player needs.
  • Collaborate with tech, product, and process leads to create and evolve the team’s technical vision.
  • Guide the team in building and operating backend services and content pipelines for player progression, personalization, and engagement features.
  • Ensure software engineering best practices are upheld, from planning and architecture to implementation, testing, deployment, and live support.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, ownership, and collaboration.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership or people management role.
  • Experience leading teams that build and operate backend systems in a live, player-facing product.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP).
  • Proven track record of mentoring engineers and helping them grow in craft and impact.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines and teams.
  • Passion for creating reliable, maintainable, and scalable systems that serve player experiences.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working on live games or live service platforms with frequent content updates.
  • Experience building systems for metagame features (e.g., progression, events, social, personalization).
  • Familiarity with languages such as Go, Java, or C++.
  • Experience working across time zones and in cross-cultural teams.
  • Affinity for or knowledge of competitive or fighting games.
