Job Description

Join eBay’s Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) team, managing the entire data lifecycle from ingestion to consumption for onsite and analytics use cases. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead an engineering team building large-scale distributed systems for experimentation and streaming data platforms. This role focuses on improving platform functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability, requiring strong technical expertise, communication, and cross-functional collaboration. Ideal for those passionate about building high-performing teams and driving innovation.
Must have:
  • Lead, drive and manage execution of cross-geo engineering team building experimentation and data platforms.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance, encouraging the professional growth of team members.
  • Cultivate collaborative and transparent ways of working to deliver high-quality software.
  • Take ownership of team deliverables, drive execution and manage expectations.
  • Manage and prioritize the backlog, aligning with team goals to improve impact.
  • Collaborate multi-functionally with product managers and business units to innovate and scale next-generation products.
  • Experience in driving execution and acting as a lead and manager in high-velocity environments.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate ideas and proposals effectively.
  • Expertise in building large-scale distributed systems with a focus on high availability, scalability, and resilience.
  • Experience with Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, and other relevant streaming technologies.
  • Proficiency in Java, Scala, Python, or similar languages.
  • 12+ years of professional experience, including 4+ years as a technical team manager.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a talented engineering team; building large scale distributed systems focused on developing experimentation and streaming data platform capabilities. You’ll play a crucial role in improving platform functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability.

This position demands strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across multiple domains and teams, across different time zones.
