Job Description

Storyboard Revisionists collaborate with the Supervising Director, Episodic Director, Editors, and Show Producers during the storyboarding and editorial phase to refine storyboards. They revise storyboards based on the direction of the Directors, generating drawn panels that improve the film's story, action, humor, continuity, and pacing. They also work with production to ensure the storyboard's technical data aligns with the editorial and partner studio workflow. The role involves working from script descriptions and supervisor direction to improve scenes, drawing detailed storyboard panels, pitching revisions, creating innovative ideas for performance, action, and humor, revising artwork, ensuring the show's style, and collaborating with the Directors.

Storyboard Revisionist - Series

 

SUMMARY:  

Storyboard Revisionists work with the Supervising Director, Episodic Director, Editors, and Show Producers to revise and improve a storyboard during the storyboarding and editorial phase of production. These artists revise storyboards based on the direction of their respective Directors, producing a series of drawn panels that improve upon the film’s story, action, humor, continuity, and pacing. They also work with production to ensure the storyboard’s technical data is congruent with the editorial and partner studio workflow.

 

Sony Pictures Animation is a pre-production animation studio based in Culver City, California, creating both feature animation and animated series with artists from around the world. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working from script descriptions and supervisor direction, revise storyboards that improve upon the action, clarity, camera placement, and acting of scenes.
  • Draw everything from quick sketches to finished, detailed, on model storyboard panels.
  • Pitch new storyboard revisions to the Supervising Director, Director, and Show Producers.
  • Discover and create innovative ideas with performance, action, and humor.
  • Revise, edit, and modify storyboard artwork as many times as needed during the episodic revision phase.
  • Ensure that the vision and style of the show is consistently adhered to through execution of action, staging, dialogue and camera.
  • Work closely with the Director(s) to discuss objectives of the storyboard revisions - ask questions, clarify notes, and to ensure storyboard revisions are completed per the feedback provided
  • Ensure deadlines are consistently met and communicate progress of work to supervisors and to appropriate production staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Robust draftsmanship with a sense of design, appeal, and composition.
  • Ability to work on a range of projects (action, comedy and drama sequences) and in a variety of styles from comic to realistic and highly stylized.
  • Strong character acting sensibilities; able to convey personality, emotion, and movement.
  • Strong staging, composition and cinematography skills.
  • Capable of drawing characters and environments on model within show style.
  • Ability to write clear and specific directions on storyboards to communicate with the team.
  • Can manage time efficiently and work independently. 
  • Work creatively in a fast paced production environment.
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change.
  • Self motivated, good interpersonal skills, and an excellent teammate with a phenomenal outlook.
  • Knowledge of software and hardware including Cintiq, Toon Boom Storyboard Pro and Photoshop.
  • TV animation series experience a plus

The anticipated base salary for this position is $43.70/hour to $50.00/hour. This role qualifies for benefits pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors
