This position is part of the Architecture and Facility Engineering (A&FE) team under Facility Operation Service (FOS) at Shanghai Disney Resort. The Utility Engineer will provide essential architectural and engineering support for various operational construction projects and new developments, as well as technical expertise to maintenance teams. Responsibilities include supporting theme park facilities and area development, assisting with testing and commissioning, identifying maintenance tools, writing safety procedures, and resolving technical issues by researching drawings. The role primarily focuses on plumbing, fire water systems, and municipal buried pipeline systems.
Must have:
  • Provide architectural and engineering support for construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with China GB and local codes.
  • Perform concept, optimization, and construction design.
  • Collaborate with project teams on technical scopes.
  • Review design drawings and construction documents.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and propose solutions.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Plumbing.
  • Possess a Registered Utility Engineer (Plumbing) license.
  • Have 10+ years of relevant working experience.
  • Familiarity with plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD, BIM, and relevant design software.
  • Knowledge of China GB, local codes, NFPA, and FMG requirements.
  • Bilingual in Chinese and English.
Good to have:
  • Post Graduate degree in Architecture discipline.
  • Experience with theme park and resort development.
  • Experience with projects invested or managed by US Company.

Job Summary:

This position belongs to the Architecture and Facility Engineering (A&FE) under the Facility Operation Service (FOS) in Shanghai Disney Resort (SHDR). This position will be responsible for providing architectural and engineering support to various operational construction projects and new development in SHDR, as well as technical expertise to the various Engineering Services (maintenance) teams. This position will support tasks in preparation for the ongoing operation of the theme park facilities and area development. It will include but not limited to facility construction and area development. To assist with testing and commissioning, identify the tools and equipment to support maintenance, write safety/technical procedures, research shop drawings from all lands to determine the construction techniques for resolving problems and assist all engineers and contractors with architectural and engineering detailing. And assisting Design Manager, Project Manager, Construction Manager and contractors in solving various architectural technical problems.

What You’ll Do:

  • Participate in design planning with internal and external entities.
  • Research China GB codes and local codes to assure that all work performed in compliance with the latest GB Code and local code.
  • Provide concept design, optimization design, and construction design work according to project demand and requirement.
  • Responsible for compiling the presentation documents at different design phase.
  • Establish project budget and schedule with project teams.
  • Work with project teams on the technical scopes of the project throughout the final phases of design, construction, testing & commissioning and handover.
  • Reviews shop drawings, material submittals and construction documents for conformance with design.
  • Research issued for construction drawings and Shop Drawings from archive files to find details of existing construction for all facilities throughout the Resort to support and technical expertise to the Engineering Services teams (maintenance).
  • Provide timely communication to each Line of Business (LOB) to know the demand change for projects.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and assist architects and engineers to propose architectural and engineering solutions for resolution as needed.

What To Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Plumbing discipline is required. And Post Graduate degree in Architecture discipline is preferred.
  • Registered Utility Engineer (Plumbing) license is required.
  • 10 or more years’ working experience, 3 or more years working experience in Large-Middle Scale LDI (Local Design Institute), 7 or more years’ working experience in concept design, schematic design, development design, construction design and construction support for the projects like commercial, office, industry and public buildings. Discipline lead for 3 or more large-scale projects. Experience with theme park and resort development preferred.
  • Familiar with Plumbing System, including tap water/ soft water/ drinking water/ black water/ grey water/ storm water etc. Familiar with kitchen waste water treatment such as Grease Interceptor etc. Familiar with water treatment system, such as filtration, ozone and UV disinfection etc.
  • Familiar with Fire Protection system, such as sprinkler, water fog, water curtain, gas extinguish, indoor/outdoor fire hydrant etc. Has the experience of leading the fire pump room design.
  • Familiar with underground utility pipe design.
  • Knowing the equipment and material of above said system, has the experience of the projects invested or managed by US Company preferred.
  • Computer and Internet proficiency in Chinese and English software required, including Office applications, design (Autodesk CAD applications), BIM (3D modeling) and major plumbing/ FP design and calculation software.
  • Educated and proficient in the knowledge of China GB codes and local codes. Knowing US standard such as NFPA. Familiar with FMG requirement.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Bilingual in Chinese and English is required.
  • Team Player with good relationship skills.
  • Demonstrate a visible commitment to safety.
  • Logical and analytical thinker with the ability to apply engineering judgment to problem solving.
  • Ability to balance productivity on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage LDI to accomplish the design following the quality and schedule requirement.
  • Ability to apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of particular field of engineering to completion of difficult assignment.
  • Maintains awareness of evolving building technology and engineering system to projects.
  • Must be willing to work evenings, holidays, weekends, and various shifts as needed.
