Hi. We’re Haleon. A world-leading consumer healthcare company with exceptional category-leading brands – including Sensodyne, Centrum, Panadol, Otrivin. We have a clear purpose: to deliver better everyday health with humanity. For billions of people around the globe.

Early Talent roles at Haleon offer the chance to change the way people see and manage their everyday health. That’s an incredible opportunity. An exciting challenge. And a huge responsibility. We’re always looking for ambitious individuals who are inspired by our purpose to deliver better everyday health, with humanity. And want to help us achieve this goal.

A career in Global OTC Analytical where none of us stand still.

Help assess the feasibility of using a non-destructive, more sustainable, real-time analysis technology called Transmission Raman Spectroscopy (TRS) for the analysis of our key active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in our solid dosage form products.

This technology is being investigated as a potential alternative to more labor intensive, less environmentally friendly and commonly used analytical technique, high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). TRS requires no sample prep other than placing samples into the instrument. This technique can potentially allow for a significant reduction in sample preparation time, analysis time, solvents used for prep and waste generated. At Haleon we are committed to reducing our negative on the environment and TRS would be a significant step in this direction.

You will be active in the lab and working with a cross-functional team of analytical and formulation scientists.

You will get real world experience working in a modern pharmaceutical R&D laboratory.

What will your individual contribution at Haleon be?

To evaluate and potentially validate the power of the Transmission Raman Spectroscopy instrumentation we need our Co-Op Scientist to:

  • Learn to operate the Transmission Raman Spectroscopy instrument and accompanying modeling software
  • Develop unique computer models across various active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipient blends to determine uniformity and content of blends and tablets
  • Prepare and subsequently analyze solid blends at various drug and excipient levels via standard pharmaceutical practices
  • Analyze actual solid pharmaceutical dosage formulations at various drug and excipient levels to aid the validation of the developed computer model
  • Generate, critically analyze, and document data via electronic laboratory note-booking
  • Using critical thinking to compose reports, present data, and compile conclusions in support of validating various active pharmaceutical ingredients for use with assay and content uniformity assessment via TRS technology

Additionally, you may be given the opportunity to:

  • Learn to operate HPLC / UHPLC instrumentation and accompanying analysis software (Empower) to validate data generated via TRS model.
  • Execute standard wet chemistry extraction assay procedures to subsequently analyze via liquid chromatography

To enable you to perform in this future talent opportunity:

Education required:

  • Computer Science or Chemistry major is preferred but other majors could be considered if individual has taken Spectroscopy, Physical Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry course.

Other requirements:

  • Individual will need to be onsite at our Richmond, VA facility for this project. (relocation assistance is not available)
  • Must be eligible to work in the US at the time of, and for the duration of employment. Employees will be required to furnish evidence of US work authorization. Applicant must not require future sponsorship for an employment visa status.
