Job Summary
Thales Canada, Defense & Security is seeking an AJISS Electrical Engineer to support Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy, primarily the AOPS and JSS In-Service (AJISS) Program. The role involves managing defects for Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPVs) and Joint Support Ships (JSS), supporting the Coastal Support and Service Delivery teams. Additionally, the engineer will assist the broader Engineering and Supportability Teams with margin management, Deviations & Waivers, and onboard surveys. This hybrid role, based in Halifax, NS, may also support the Minor War & Auxiliary vessels (MWAV) program, including defect rectification, surveys, and Engineering Changes.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia, Canada
- Minimum 5 years of professional marine work experience within the last 10 years
- Ability to develop and review electrical/electronic system technical documentation
- Proficiency in conducting technical investigations and root cause analyses
- Experience preparing documented work scopes
- Capability to develop and/or approve technical Work Instructions
- Skill in analyzing requirements for baseline changes
- Competence in conducting electrical load design calculations
- Experience supporting Engineering Change processes
Good to Have
- 8 years of professional marine work experience within the last 15 years
- Previous experience with Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard
- Experience in delivering marine in-service support of operational assets
- Experience working with a defense contract
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira
- French language proficiency (desirable)

Position Summary
Thales Canada, Defense & Security is looking for a Program Engineer - Electrical to support its Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy, mainly the AOPS and JSS In-Service (AJISS) Program.
As part of the AJISS Engineering team, the primary role of the Program Engineer - Electrical is to support the Coastal Support team and the Service Delivery team with the management of defects for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPVs) and Joint Support Ships (JSS). The role also supports the greater Engineering and Supportability Teams with various activities such as margin management, creation of Deviations & Waivers or surveys onboard the ships while alongside.
The role may also be called upon to support the Minor War & Auxiliary vessels (MWAV) program. Activities would include the same support in terms of support to defect rectification and surveys but also involved the development and implementation of Engineering Changes.
This role is hybrid and based in Halifax, NS.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Assigned tasks are to be completed in accordance with Thales quality and commercial guidelines, contracted time and cost requirements. This includes but is not limited to performing the following:
- Developing and reviewing electrical and electronic system technical documentation including equipment specifications, installation and maintenance job instructions.
- Conducting technical investigations into problems associated with electrical system, equipment and/or software issues, including root cause analyses, risk assessments and solution development.
- Preparing documented work scopes associated with Defect investigation/resolution, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers.
- Developing and/or approving technical Work Instructions.
- Coordinating with other Thales staff (Mechanical, Combat Systems, Hull Engineering and Naval Architecture staff) and/or Subcontractors to achieve the agreed outcomes within the delegated authorities and responsibilities.
- Analyzing requirements associated with baseline changes to the ships configuration, equipment and software.
- Conducting electrical load design calculations.
- Support Engineering Team for Engineering Change process.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia, Canada.
- Minimum 5 years of demonstrated professional marine work experience within the last 10 years.

Special Position Requirements
- Schedule: 40 hours per week.
- Work Location: Hybrid: Will be required to work from the Thales office or the dockyard (about 80% of the time) and home (about 20%).
- Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of the ships.

Total Target Cash (TTC) 82,593.60 - 137,756.00 CAD Annual
