Reporting to the Senior Assistant Director of Advising, this position provides individualized academic advising support to a caseload of undergraduate students. This role is integral to the academic advising office, helping students identify resources for academic, career, and personal goals. The advisor also serves as an academic coach for at-risk students, provides course registration support, and hosts informational sessions. The team is committed to an inclusive and culturally informed environment.

Must Have

  • Serve as an academic advising resource for a caseload of undergraduate students
  • Assist students in navigating campus systems and utilizing appropriate resources
  • Serve as an academic coach for academically at-risk students
  • Provide course registration support to students
  • Provide drop-in availability during add/drop and course registration periods
  • Submit CARE reports for students with concerns beyond academic advising scope
  • Develop initiatives focused on retention and graduation for students with academic difficulty
  • Minimum bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Ability to communicate effectively and handle sensitive situations with confidentiality
  • Comfortable in a technology-based educational environment
  • Ability to work in a team-centered and collaborative environment

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Assistant Director of Advising, this position provides individualized academic advising support to a caseload of undergraduate students. This position is an integral member of the academic advising office, helping students identify resources to support them in their academic, career, and personal goals as they interactively engage in the local and global environment. We are a collaborative team with an ongoing focus of deepening our understanding of the intersectional identities of all members of our WPI community. JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an academic advising resource for a caseload of students across majors and class years by conducting individual advising appointments throughout the academic year to assist students with short- and long-term academic planning, major selection, and course selection
  • Assist students in navigating campus systems, as well as accessing and utilizing appropriate resources to support their academic and personal success
  • Serve as an academic coach for academically at-risk students by providing weekly one-on-one meetings for students who have struggled academically
  • Help students identify and address personal and academic challenges
  • Identify concrete strategies and resources to improve academic performance
  • Provide course registration support to students by conducting individual student appointments to help students outline an appropriate course schedule
  • Provide drop-in availability during all add/drop and course registration periods to assist students in planning and finalizing an appropriate path of study each term
  • Host informational sessions and/or presentations for specific groups of students regarding course selection and registration advice
  • Submit CARE reports for students whose concerns go beyond the scope of academic advising, or who are academically at-risk and unresponsive to outreach
  • Develop initiatives focused on retention and graduation of students who have experienced academic difficulty
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience in academic advising and/or student development at the college level preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and/or commitment to do so as an employee at WPI
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and parents; must be able to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality
  • Must be comfortable in a technology-based educational environment
  • Ability to work in a team-centered and collaborative environment

Salary Grade 5: $49,500 – $54,000 per year (depending on experience)

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
