The Agronomy Research Associate will lead irrigation and nutrition operations for corn, soybean, and sunflower seed production in a continuous nursery. Responsibilities include developing and executing precision irrigation and plant nutrition programs, managing IPM, and maintaining equipment. The role involves developing annual supply plans, supervising and developing staff, and ensuring daily operational execution. The associate will drive innovation in agronomic practices, optimize resource use, and maintain high quality and process improvement standards. Key duties also include budget monitoring, ensuring timely equipment maintenance, implementing scouting systems for early problem detection, and ensuring compliance with quality and HSE protocols.
Must have:

Job Description

Objectives

  • The position is responsible for leading irrigation and nutrition operations in the continuous nursery for corn, soybean, and sunflower seed production.
  • You will be responsible for developing and executing precision irrigation and plant nutrition programs, as well as correctly executing IPM programs and equipment maintenance.
  • The position will develop annual plans for purchasing supplies and consumables for the area's operation, to ensure all resources are available to execute and provide excellence in seed production.
  • The role will be responsible for supervising and developing personnel in their direct line of command, seeking or generating the necessary training for the correct execution of tasks.
  • Daily participation in the operation with direct reports to ensure execution in accordance with strategy and plans.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate innovation by staying abreast of emerging trends and recommending new processes, products, training opportunities, or techniques that ensure success in irrigation and nutrition programs, as well as IPM strategies.
  • Find and develop the best precision irrigation strategies, ensuring efficiency in the use of involved resources.
  • Develop the annual irrigation, nutrition strategy, as well as the maintenance of irrigation equipment and on-site facilities.
  • Develop a culture of high quality and process improvement throughout the team and areas of responsibility.
  • Budget and expense monitoring, ensuring inventory is accurate.
  • Ensure that the equipment maintenance team provides timely preventive and corrective services to equipment and that they are functioning and properly calibrated.
  • Develop and maintain a scouting system where problems are discovered and diagnosed early enough to implement effective control before irreversible damage occurs.
  • Anticipate potential problems in order to avoid crop losses or unavailability.
  • Compliance with local regulations, as well as all site quality and HSE protocols.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Biology, Biotechnology, or related field.
  • Intermediate Excel proficiency.
  • Excellent understanding of all relevant agronomic/cultural practices in a tropical environment (irrigation, planting, IPM, pesticide applications).
  • Knowledge of seed crop research, production, and quality assurance practices.
  • At least 4 years of experience in similar positions.
  • Knowledge of irrigation system operation software.
  • Experience in field, shade, and greenhouse operations.
  • Field experience.
  • Experience in irrigation system design and implementation.
  • Experience in integrated pest management.
  • Experience in talent management.
  • Driver's license.
  • Travel availability.

  • Intermediate English
