AIML - Sr. Software Engineer, Evaluation

This role is part of Apple Intelligence, focusing on the next revolution in machine learning and Generative AI. The team builds groundbreaking conversational assistant technologies for large-scale systems and new client devices. The Sr. Software Engineer will design and integrate scalable architectures, build core APIs, frameworks, and libraries for AI/ML feature evaluation. They will lead requirements definition, co-own the roadmap for ML evaluation platforms, and strengthen automation to improve model performance assessment and streamline workflows across AI/ML teams.

Must Have

• Design and build scalable architectures, core APIs, and frameworks for AI/ML modeling and evaluation.
• Define requirements, develop proofs of concept, and co-own ML evaluation platform roadmap.
• Integrate and optimize evaluation systems for automation and model assessment.
• Own full lifecycle of software components: design, testing, release, and iteration.
• Develop tools providing insights into platform behavior and model performance.
• Collaborate with engineering, research, and product teams for high-impact solutions.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one other object-oriented language (C++, C#, Java).
• Deep experience with end-to-end system development life cycle.

In this role, you will design and integrate scalable architectures and build core APIs, frameworks, and libraries that enable Modeling and Evaluation teams to efficiently assess AI/ML-powered features. You will lead requirements definition—including proof-of-concept development—and co-own the roadmap for ML evaluation platforms, ensuring seamless system integration and continuous improvement. Your work will strengthen automation, improve model performance assessment, and streamline workflows across AI/ML teams. The ideal candidate has a strong track record of owning full product lifecycles, from initial design and implementation to feedback-driven iteration on tools that support AI/ML development. You will build, measure, and optimize software solutions that deliver insights into platform changes, driving innovation and elevating Apple’s AI-driven user experiences. This role requires strategic thinking, deep technical expertise, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment while partnering closely with engineering, research, and product teams to deliver high-impact solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable architectures, core APIs, and frameworks that support AI/ML modeling and evaluation.
• Define requirements and develop proofs of concept, and co-own the roadmap for ML evaluation platforms.
• Integrate and optimize evaluation systems to improve automation, model assessment quality, and team workflows.
• Own the full lifecycle of software components, from design through testing, release, and iteration.
• Develop and refine tools that provide insights into platform behavior and model performance.
• Collaborate with engineering, research, and product teams to deliver high-impact, scalable solutions.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience, including designing, implementing, and optimizing software systems, frameworks, APIs, or developer tools.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Python (required), plus experience with at least one additional object-oriented language such as C++, C#, or Java.
• Deep experience with end-to-end system development life cycle, including architecture, development, testing, debugging, release engineering, and long-term maintenance for scalable, high-performance systems.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Swift or Objective-C is preferred

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
