Job Summary
The Apple Service Engineering (ASE) team is seeking an experienced SRE Software Engineer to build and enhance Kubernetes internals, ensuring services scale for Apple's offerings like iCloud, iTunes, Siri, and Maps. This role involves designing, engineering, and running systems and infrastructure globally, focusing on core Kubernetes components, controllers, and namespace management. The engineer will contribute to a platform delivering applications at scale, engaging with the upstream community to meet Apple's diverse needs.
Must Have
- Operate, monitor, and triage production and non-production environments.
- Design, build, and implement innovative Kubernetes solutions in a highly distributed environment.
- Prepare alert handling procedures and runbooks.
- Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
- Automate deployment and orchestration of services into the cloud environment.
- Interact with and support partner teams.
- Strong experience with building and scaling core components of Kubernetes or similar orchestration systems.
- Highly Proficient in Golang.
- Experienced with highly distributed Unix systems.
Good to Have
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, an engineering-related field, or equivalent related experience.
- Advanced Degree preferred.
- Automation advocate with a strong sense of ownership.
- Capable of collaborating and coordinating with multiple distinct engineering teams and mentoring others.

Apple Service Engineering (ASE)’s Compute team is seeking an experienced SRE software engineer to build and enhance Kubernetes internals, ensuring that services scale to meet the demands of Apple’s Services offerings. You will work with world-class engineers on core components of Kubernetes with an emphasis on controllers and infrastructure to manage namespaces to help fit Apple’s diverse needs while engaging with the upstream community to drive Apple’s requirements. Ultimately, you will help build the platform that delivers our applications at scale to our end users.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, an engineering-related field, or equivalent related experience. Advanced Degree preferred.

- Design, build and implement innovative solutions around Kubernetes in a highly distributed environment.
- Prepare alert handling procedures, runbooks, and collaborate with other SRE teams.
- Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot and resolve production issues, minimizing downtime.
- Automate deployment and orchestration of services into the cloud environment as well as other routine processes.
- Interact with and support partner teams, including engineering, QA, and program management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Automation advocate with a strong sense of ownership - you truly believe in removing operational load via software.
- Strong experience with building and scaling core components of Kubernetes or similar orchestration systems
- Highly Proficient in Golang
- Be capable of collaborating and coordinating with multiple distinct engineering teams and mentoring others
- Experienced with highly distributed unix systems.
