The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for an Analyst/Programmer5 (Software Development Team Lead) located in Juneau or Anchorage!

What you will be doing:
This position serves as the manager for the Information Management Program’s Information Services Team. Under the direction of the Information Management Program manager, you will lead the development of systems which provide hunting permits and track the harvesting of game species in the wilderness of Alaska. These systems provide vital data to wildlife biologists, game managers, and researchers managing animal populations.

As the Information Services team lead you will take part in the modernization of mission critical legacy systems and develop new features and systems to allow our staff to serve hunters worldwide. You will be empowered to design, plan, and implement technical solutions for complex business problems, initiate and manage contracts, and you will coach junior developers on new techniques and technologies.

The working conditions you can expect:
You will have an office at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game headquarters in Juneau or Anchorage. You may have the options of a flexible work week and/or teleworking.
  • Requires periodic travel within the State (normally 1-2 trips of approximately 3 days length, per year).

Minimum Qualifications

Six years of computer programming experience, of which, at least two years were at the project leader or systems design level. This is equivalent to an Analyst/Programmer 4 with the State of Alaska. Two years of experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer information management support specialty. The specialized experience may be gained concurrently.

Substitution:

A bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a related degree with (18) semester/(24) quarter hours of CS or CIS may substitute for one year of the required experience. An associate's degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems may substitute for nine months of the required experience in a specialty area. There is no substitute for the systems analysis and design or project leadership experience.

Special Note:

An applicant who is considered under the Substitution above qualifies to apply for this job class IF the applicable coursework is completed within three (3) months of hire. Under this option, an applicant may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of completion will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Individual positions at each level in this class series may require expertise in a particular area of programming or analysis. Recruitment and selection will be on the basis of these requirements.

For some positions in these job classes, a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.
