Job Description

CAE, a leading global provider of simulation and training technology for pilots, offers an apprenticeship as a Mathematical-Technical Software Developer (MATSE) starting September 2026 in Stolberg, Germany. This dual program combines an IHK apprenticeship with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from FH Aachen, leading to two qualifications. Apprentices will work in international teams on scientific and technical problems in flight simulation, applying mathematical skills, developing software solutions, and learning about operating systems, databases, and network technology. A 'buddy' system supports new apprentices, who will gain practical experience in agile development methods.
Must have:
  • University entrance qualification with good grades in mathematics
  • Successfully passed knowledge test at RWTH Aachen

Mathematical-Technical Software Developer (m/f/d) – MATSE

The dual apprenticeship is combined with the Bachelor's degree program "Applied Mathematics and Computer Science" at FH Aachen, so you will have two degrees at the end – an IHK degree as a trained mathematical-technical software developer (m/f/d) and the academic title "Bachelor of Science".

What Awaits You

As a MATSE student, you will have the opportunity to tinker with a variety of scientific and technical problems in the exciting field of flight simulation and apply and deepen your math knowledge.

You will work in a team with other students and experienced colleagues to develop solution strategies based on mathematical models. You will learn how to modify models and formally represent application problems. Topics such as operating systems and databases, computer architectures, and network technology will eventually become your daily bread. From day one, a colleague will be at your side as a 'buddy', so you always have a competent contact person for your questions.

Programming and testing our software solutions are carried out in international teams, and you can see the results of your work directly on the product, the flight simulators. You will have the opportunity to get to know various agile development methods not only in theory but also in practice, as you develop into a professional developer.
