Job Summary
RRMM Architects, an award-winning firm, is seeking an Architectural Technician/Assistant Project Manager for its Retail/Commercial Studio in Chesapeake or Roanoke, VA. The role involves creating architectural designs, interpreting building codes, preparing documentation, and coordinating with consultants. The ideal candidate will have 1-4 years of experience, a degree in Architecture or Interior Design, and strong skills in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, communication, and project management. This position requires a team-first approach and the ability to manage projects from inception through construction.
Must Have
- Create architectural designs and concepts based on client input.
- Interpret and apply building codes and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and revise architectural documentation (site plans, floor plans, elevations, sections, details).
- Coordinate consultant drawings to ensure design compatibility.
- Communicate with clients, engineers, and contractors for design changes.
- Attend project coordination and internal/external meetings.
- Minimum 1-4 years of architecture, interior design, or related experience.
- Degree in Architecture or Interior Design.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with a TEAM first approach.
- Ability to successfully carry a project from inception through construction.
- Extensive experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Design experience in Retail / Commercial projects.

The position is for the Retail / Commercial Studio in the Chesapeake or Roanoke, VA offices. The qualified candidate should have a minimum of 1-4 years of architecture, interior design, or related experience with strong organizational and communication skills with a TEAM first approach and the ability to successfully carry a project from inception through construction.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with the PM / Sr. PM to create architectural designs and concepts based on client input and feedback.
- Interprets and applies building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.
- Prepares and revises documentation in various architectural phases including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections, and details.
- Coordinates consultant’s drawings (structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent with oversite from Sr. Staff
- Communicate with clients, engineers and contractors to implement designs changes in the field.
- Attend project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
- Pick up redlines / mark-ups from Sr. Staff.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree in Architecture or Degree in Interior Design
- Basic knowledge and application of accessibility codes and applicable building codes.
- Basic knowledge of building construction systems
- Basic understanding of all phases of architectural document production
- Ability to conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with building program.
- Develop floor plans, wall sections, and details.
- Manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Participate and collaborate in a project team setting through all phases of architectural document production.
- Design experience in Retail / Commercial projects .
- Strong communication and project management skills.
- Extensive experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
