Job Summary
Patreon is seeking an Art Director to join their Marketing team in New York or San Francisco. This role involves high-level concepting, hands-on design, and execution across various campaigns, social content, and product launches. The Art Director will lead creative efforts to celebrate creators and amplify Patreon's brand, ensuring visual consistency and experimenting with new storytelling approaches. They will translate strategy into compelling creative directions and direct photo/video shoots, championing the voice of creators.
Must Have
- Concept and develop ideas that celebrate creators and bring the brand to life across integrated campaigns, digital content, video, events, and partnerships.
- Translate high-level strategy into compelling creative directions, mood boards, visual systems, and executions.
- Lead and collaborate closely with designers, copywriters, producers, photographers, and external creative partners to deliver work at the highest level.
- Direct photo/video shoots that highlight creators and showcase brand values.
- Ensure visual consistency across channels.
- Iterate quickly and experiment with new formats, styles, and storytelling approaches.
- Champion the voice and perspective of creators.
- 6+ years of experience in design, art direction, creative direction, or similar roles.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong concepting skills, systems thinking, visual storytelling, and graphic design craft.
- Experience directing photography and/or video content.
- Ability to lead creative from ideation through production, including hands-on design.
- Comfort working across both big brand campaigns and fast-moving content production.
- Passion for supporting creator communities and amplifying diverse artistic expression.
- Collaborative spirit and strong communication skills.

- Motion graphics/animation skills.

Job Description
Patreon is a media and community platform where over 300,000 creators give their biggest fans access to exclusive work and experiences. We offer creators a variety of ways to engage with their fans and build a lasting business including: paid memberships, free memberships, community chats, live video, and selling to fans directly with one-time purchases.
Ultimately our goal is simple: fund the creative class. And we're leaders in that space, with:
- $10 billion+ generated by creators since inception
- 100 million+ free memberships for fans who may not be ready to pay just yet, and
- 25 million+ paid memberships today.
We're continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator platform with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for an Art Director to support our mission.
This role is based in New York or San Francisco and open to those who are able to be in-office 2 days per week on a hybrid work model.
About the Team
The Marketing team operates as both a traditional marketing organization and an internal creative agency. We lead the development and expression of the brand—driving awareness, affinity, and growth among creators and fans. Our work spans brand strategy, creator marketing, creative direction, video production, social media, events, and public relations. Together, we craft campaigns and experiences that celebrate creativity, highlight the power of direct fan support, and showcase the diverse voices that make the platform unique. With a blend of strategic thinking and hands-on execution, the team shapes how the world sees the platform and how creators connect with their communities.
About the Role
We’re looking for an Art Director who can bring fresh, strategic, creator-centric storytelling to life. This role blends high-level concepting with hands-on design and execution. You’ll lead across campaigns, social content, creator stories, product launches, and brand moments that celebrate and amplify the diverse creators who use the platform.
You are part brand guardian, part storyteller, part maker — with a sharp eye for craft and a deep respect for the creativity of others

About You
- 6+ years of experience in design, art direction, creative direction, or similar roles—agency or in-house.
- A portfolio that demonstrates strong concepting skills, systems thinking, visual storytelling, and graphic design craft.
- Experience directing photography and/or video content.
- Ability to lead creative from ideation through production, including hands-on design when needed.
- Comfort working across both big brand campaigns and fast-moving content production.

We operate under a hybrid work model, where employees based in office locations are expected to come into the office two days per week, excluding sick time and paid leave. At Patreon, we believe in fair and transparent pay. In compliance with New York and California pay transparency laws, we are sharing the expected salary range for this role.
The posted salary range is dependent on the location and the level. This range may encompass multiple levels within the role’s job family. The final offer will be based on candidate’s experience, skills, competencies, and geographic location, aligning with the appropriate job level within our leveling framework. For remote employees located outside CA and NY, salary may vary based on location and local market conditions.
