The Assistant Facility Security Officer (FSO) will support the AFRL/RG (AFWERX) Technical Operations Branch. The role involves administrative and security management, information protection, and anti-terrorism/force protection. Responsibilities include participating in Integrated Product Teams, analyzing problems, and writing reports. The candidate will ensure compliance with USG regulations, including ITAR and DoD policies. The role requires maintaining secure facilities, handling classified information, and providing security guidance to program leaders. The position involves preparing security documentation and participating in security working groups. The ideal candidate will need to be able to conduct independent security studies and analyses as required with only general direction and guidance.

About this role:
- We are looking for an Assistant Facility Security Officer (FSO) to support the AFRL/RG (AFWERX) Technical Operations Branch. AFWERX is the innovation arm of the Department of the Air Force (DAF) and accelerates agile and affordable capability transitions by teaming innovative technology developers with Airman and Guardian talent.
- AFWERX supports both internal and external (federal and industry partners) users across multiple CONUS locations through client hardware support (NIPR, DREN) and cloud-based (e.g. IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) applications.
- Additionally, the AFWERX Technical Operations Branch provides Risk Management Framework (RMF) and cybersecurity support to the different AFWERX divisions (i.e. AFVentures, Spark, Prime), including Flight Test Program Management (FTPM) support to both manned and unmanned flight tests.
The ideal candidate will have the knowledge and ability to perform tasks related to the technical/professional discipline they are performing. The work can be done independently or monitored by senior employees to ensure compliance with proper procedures.
We are looking for experience with:
- Provide administrative, security management, Information Protection (IP), and AntiTerrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) to AFRL/RGOS. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, participation on Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and related activities, analyzing problems, defining alternative solutions, providing recommendations, writing reports, and accomplishing specifically assigned work as defined in individual tasks orders/projects.
- Not release or allow any foreign national access to United States Government (USG) without direct approval from the USG. The Contractor may have access to another foreign USG’s information at the unclassified and sensitive levels.
- Comply with the US State Department’s International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) (22 CFR Parts 120-130 and Amendments), the Arms Export Control Act, Defense Trade Security Initiatives, State Department, United States Air Force (USAF), and DoD policies relative to the ITAR and exporting and importing data especially for non-foreign military sales (FMS) cases.
- Follow the foreign travel requirements as identified in the Foreign Country Clearance Guide.
- Assist in maintaining secure facilities and respond to alarms of the USG facilities In Accordance With (IAW) USAF requirements and AFRL Operating Instructions (OIs).
- Receive and secure classified information.
What will make you successful:
- Conduct independent security studies and analyses as required with only general direction and guidance.
- Assist the Chief of Information Protection to ensure security program requirements are integrated into all program areas of this task as required by DoD, USAF, and Major Command (MAJCOM) policies.
- Security input for Statement of Work (SOW), Statement of Objectives (SOO), CONOPS, ST&E, Data Item Description (DID), SCG, and DD Form 254 DoD Contract Security Classification Specifications, DoD Contract Security Classification Specification.
- Prepare DD Form 254s for signature, coordination, and distribution by the appropriate USG agency.
- Assist in preparation of Security Classification/Declassification Guides for AFRL programs in which classified information is involved.
- Provide support to the AFRL as a technical security advisor to senior program leaders and their management staff on matters affecting the overall protection architecture.
- Participate in security working groups and other meetings as required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable DoD, USAF, and AFMC security directives to include National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), the NISPOM Supplement, and Joint Air Force-Army-Navy Manuals and Implementation Guide.
